ZL1 vs 427 Vette
First off, I know this is a Camaro site so I am expecting a slant to the answers. I have a similar passion for the car and I guess that's why we all enjoy this hobby anyway.
I have been dreaming of this since the IROC-Z days, was on sites when people weren't totally buying Scott's "keep the faith" message, and I looked at the last 2002 SS in Lexington and thought my chance of ever buying a new Camaro were shot. Now things are different. I was never a Corvette fan but I really like the C6, and test drove a Z06 a few months ago. Now I am only a couple of months from ordering my dream toy and I'm torn between the ZL1 convertible Camaro and the 427 convertible Corvette. I don't require the back seats so that's not really an issue. The price difference isn't enough to sway me. I almost feel like I'm cheating on my long time dream to even consider the Corvette but the 427 has really got my interest. If the price didn't sway you, which car would you get? I'm ordering so availability won't really be an issue unless they close down the 2013 orders to start the C7 Corvettes - which opens up even more decision making difficulty. |

If I knew for a fact they fixed the issues with the valves in the 427 heads,I would buy the Vette.I sold my Z06 because of this.If not,I would buy the ZL1 vert.

The ZL1 is more comparable to the base vette, not a Z06. It's not even close.

The Vette will be faster. However, in awesome factor, they will be pretty close.

I agree with above, that is what the warranty is for. They have just as many incidences of bearing failures due to oil starvation.....Both issues have relatively inexpensive remedies. LS3s blow more often with track duty....I think there's a thread at CF entitled "who has not blown an LS3" I have an 08 Z06 and at least half of the 8K miles are track miles....car was made for it.....runs better when you beat on it! But to the OP....on ZL1 vs 427 vert? The two are totally different cars....like my kids say (I have a 2SS as well) one is a scary race car and the other one is a cruiser.........but a vert is a cruiser too....so it just depends if you want to go fast or really fast. |

I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that I have a few more months to decide. I probably will go with the Corvette if I had to pick today. I'd love to drive them back to back but that's really unlikely.
It's crazy here, I live in Bowling Green where they build the Vettes and the local dealer never has any in stock. |
