87 Octane
Pulled up to gas station today to fill up the ZL1 saw a buddy of mine so we talked while I filled my car then he took off. Only then did I noticed I filled the car with 87 octane (idiot)!!! Now what do I do? Can I use octane booster? Can I siphon it out? Thanks!

It's going to run shitty as hell for that tank. Just refill with 93 and do a "controversial" fuse pull after a couple tanks of 93. Get out of the 87 habit though.

I would not run it as is, dump a few bottles of octane booster in and and refill it with 93 when you hit a half a tank

That's what I would do too. A couple bottles of octane boost (there are several brands of no lead), and then just drive easy for a while staying out of the boost. Then a fuse pull after a 93 refill. It will be fine, especially keeping your foot out of it. No you can't siphon it out, just run it out with easy driving.

Probably going to be the slowest tank of gas going out of your car and probably the best gas mileage you'll get too because your gonna want to stay out of boost

Torco. Dump a bottle or two in there. You will be fine. Make sure it's Torco tho, don't just use any old additive.

torco would be my best idea. I don't know how the camaro community will feel but I have also had good luck with xylene mixed with a cap full of marvel mystery oil.
here is a link that shows the ratios. Xylene is available at home depot. http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/octanebooster.html |

Thanks for the help! I've decided to add octane booster on this tank of gas. The problem is I don't know how many bottles of Lucas octane booster(15 oz) it will take to raise the octane from 87 to 93? Any thoughts?

http://www.serioussolutions.com/evo/octcalc.htm
or http://www.bazellracefuels.com/Calcs/OC1.htm heres an octane calculator. Just ratio in the torco etc to get the right mix, then proportion back to the needed amount to get the right octane rating.

Just drive it and stay out of the boost.. its only a couple hundred miles.. dont use any magic octane crap. Just drive it nice.

thats absurd, you could damage the engine due to detonation and I am pretty sure the warranty would not cover the damage since the owners manual states premium fuel only, there are good risks in life and bad risks, this is a bad risk

lol ok, im not going to argue.. the engine has the most sensitive knock sensors around.. it pulls MASSIVE amounts of timing at the HINT if detonation.. my stealership filled mine with swill water. the engine is not even 10.1. you could drive it on 85 and it would not knock a bit if it were not for the boost..GM HAS to build there cars to run on ALL available octane. They recommend premium for obvious reasons. the car will not blow up, it will not hurt anything.. just drive the bad gas out of it on the highway, stay out of the boost and be nice to it, and when it gets down in fuel you can refill with 93.. it will be fine. |
