AIR INTAKE ADVICE

I received a Spectre Performance air intake kit as a gift. Is this any good or should I return it? I was never planning on putting one on but I keep getting asked by the gift giver if I put it on yet so they can see how it looks. Since I have this I might as well use it, I just don't want any problems. I was wondering if anybody has one and how do you like it.

Too bad it's a gift. That puts you in a spot. Opposite sex gift? Even harder.

If it were me, I'd return it for money.

It appears that GM may make the Z/28 intake available for aftermarket purchase given the SEMA displays. I'm waiting for that one.

It honestly can't be THAT bad. Show us a pic or provide a link to it if you could. I think you'd be safe with it. There's a few people on here that are running with one, hopefully they'll chime in.

What was the price of the gift btw? If its in the 200s then maybe it'd be wise to return and snag a K&N at the same price....

Here is a link to it on Amazon and also Spectre Performance site. It's not that expensive and I don't need the money so I might as well give it a try.

It is not a very good system but you are in a tough spot.

Yes I am, like I said I was never planning on getting one so it doesn't matter to me if I have it or not. I just don't want to put it on and lose performance or mileage. She would be happy to see it on.

I don't know why everyone says the Z/28 is going to be available... that doesn't matter for the V6 guys. The LS7 is actually comparable to the LS3, same block, etc. The V6 has a very different position.

The spectre intake will help, it just doesn't have the same gains as the more expensive intakes. You won't lose anything, you'll just gain less.

the thought was there I guess.
If I were you install it and then remove it. Or you can tell her that it will void your warranty
(Hopefully she doesn't know that)

Just do it, it doesn't look that horrible. You'll get a better throttle response and probably a few ponies up top. It won't hurt.

What would be cool is if you do a before and after dyno. Most places charge 75 bucks for 3 runs, maybe go that route. This way you can truly see if you added power and then you can show the forum if that spectre intake has some guts. That's what I would do personally.

Just be honest and tell the gift giver that the part is not to your liking. Express gratitude for the thoughtfulness. Then pick out something together for the car, like an Apex Catch Can.

Install it together and you, the gift giver and your car will be happy.

A thought comes to mind. If she doesn't actually know what it looks like (i.e. no picture on the box) you could get a "better" one from Chase at Apex and then return the Spectre unit.

Try it and if it throws a code you have a legit excuse to return it. I like the previous comment about no picture on the box, then upgrade it to one suggested on the camaro 5 forum.

Just do it. Specter is pretty generic, but it'll be ok. Before you buy a better aftermarket kit make sure to buy a specter sticker. Do you see where I'm going with that?
