it would cost about the same for an LS1/LT1 swap. for the LS3, it would take more money to buy the motor than with a used LT1/LS1. other than that, the LS376 is an LS based engine and would involve the same work as an LS1 install would

If you picked up an LT1 Fbody and wanted to throw in an LSX, you'd need a Trans (LT1 T56s and 4L60Es have different bellhousings) and a computer at the very least. If you were to pick up an LS1 Fbody, it would only require a tune...if the trans and rear end didn't have a million miles on it.

If money is a factor, the LT1s are going for pretty cheap these days and there's a lot of potential in that motor. I'd say pick up a v8 Fbody and practice tearing that thing apart and putting it back together in the garage. Then you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect with an engine swap

I traded mine in for a Z28, best route...they only way I'd even think about doing a swap like that is if I was gonna drop in a 402/427 or something of that nature. you'd still need PCM, shocks, springs, K-member and upgraded rearend. I'd either mod the hell out of the V6, or buy a V8

Being a 4th gen its modular.

Drop the V6 and cradle out of the bottom, slide under a V8 n cradle.
The good junkyards will have em complete like that.

Few hr driveway swap.

And who knows what they will have pre bolted up. Could be anything.
More engine, more likley to end up wrapped around a tree.

I would also not sweat it over the rear end, it will be fine.
Its the 3rd gen V6 rears you watched out for
and they can take a good 300ish HP [few turbo mod cars pushing that much on a v6 rear]. The 4th gen v6 rear is much better.

Sell left over. 3rd gen V6 folks will want the 4th gen V6.

Wow, you are right about that . Sometimes I do forget how easy dropping the engine out of a 4th gen is hell you dont even need a lift. For those who don't know here you go http://www.keliente.com/engine.htm

Recent 4th gen swap I seen, the guy used his 2ton engine hoist to lift the nose of the car, not the engine

rebuild using copart

If there is a number of items that needs to be replaced in order to convert from a v6 to v8 why not just get a completely totaled car from copart and swap everything into your V6 Camaro. At least you would have all the parts in the same place from the wrecked SS or ZL1.

I'm currently doing a ls swap in my 96 z28 it doesn't make a difference if a v6 or v8 you will still have to change the complete. Kmember to a ls which bmr has it for 550. You will need a different rear end and fuel supply etc

I'm working on this swap as well. 99 Hugger orange convertible is getting a 99 crunched Trans Am ls1/t56. I also have a 2000 SS roller that will donate a few parts.
