Question about Mylink and texting - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Somehow two weeks ago a 2014 2SS ended up in my driveway. I love it a lot so far but I'm a little confused about something...

Everything I read on the website says that Mylink supports messaging and texts within the interface, and I've seen a video on youtube of someone demonstrating this inside a new Camaro. But I seem to be lacking a "Messages" icon.

I've checked all the menus and got to the screen where I can add and remove "apps" but it's not even an option in there. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to the dealer yet but I did do a live chat on the chevy site earlier where the guy went so far as to run my vin and said it should be there.

So in the meantime I was just wondering if I'm the only one with this issue. I don't know if I might be missing something or if maybe they've purposely removed this for some reason, or if it's simply just a software update issue.

What kind of phone? I remember another thread a while back about a '13 with myLink and it reading text, etc. It was puzzling many on here and the dealer about how it was working. It turns out the guy was using a windows phone and that's what made it possible. To my knowledge you can't do it with iOS or Droid yet.

I couldn't do it with my iPhone but with my windows phone it works great.

Oh okay the "infotainment specialist" I chatted with didn't mention that so it's good to know, thanks.

I have an Android so maybe that's it, but I still expected to see the greyed out icon option or something. I didn't see anything on the website about it not working with certain phones but the whole mylink interface information on the chevy site sucks to be honest.

My iPhone 5 just started showing up with the text message thing over the weekend. I couldn't get it to work for some reason but it all of a sudden showed up. I can't reply to messages from the screen even while at a stop but it does read them to me now.

Yea, I've been having issues with the "reply" button as well.

I think the only way you can reply is to set up the automated replies in the MyLink menu itself, there is a list where you can type what you want it to send. I haven't messed with it because my car is back at the shop but that was my thought when I looked at it this weekend.

Nope doesn't work. Trust me - I've tried every combination of ways to reply to a text message through MyLink. Just doesn't work.

Damn, was hoping that would work. Hopefully the next software update for MyLink will have a fix.

Picked up my 14' yesterday. Ran through all the Mylink menus etc.. bluetooth worked fine. The messages icon worked fine for incoming texts. You could read them when parked, or listen to them while driving.

Today: Messages icon is missing ..

Obviously software issues or something. One out of 5 times when pairing, I'll get the Messages icon. When I do have it, it works fine.

Also noticed when there isnt a Message icon, the voice recognition for the phone wont work for calling up people/numbers. Works for the radio, Pandora etc but not for numbers on the phone. (unless the Message icon is there)

My wifes identical phone does the same thing. HTC DNA phones.

I'm guessing its not getting data from the phone related to msgs, and phone contacts.

First year bugs I hope.

Mine didn't work but after reading through some information I had to turn on the voice feature on my phone first. Then the text option started working and it is really cool to be driving and have the texts read out while my phone is in my pocket. It's a hefty fine to have your phone in your hand while driving in this neck of the woods.
