Engine Cover remove?

Is it ok to leave the engine cover off for a long extended period of time. It's freaking 100 degrees out here in Florida. If someone already asked this, my apologies, but I can't find the thread. Thanx in advance.

I don't think it will hurt one bit to leave the engine cover off.. It really is just an added acessory to cover the fuel rails injectors wires etc.. You should be fine.. My 2000 Ls1 didn't have an engine cover .. it was fine..

You are ok

It's just cosmetic. A lot of people remove them.

Here's what the underside of my Camaro's hood has looked like for the past few months:

I haven't had any problems with my setup. I did an ignition coil relocation, GM Performance valve covers, relocated heater hoses and fuel line with the TechAFX kit, painted my intake cover, and installed a RotoFab cold-air intake. No problems whatsoever with running without the engine cover.

Actually, the only problem I've had since fixing mine up this way is that I have to keep wiping up drool spots when I show it off to people.

...plus the stock engine cover looks gay, painted or not. Should have come like the Corvette LS3 engine covers, but GM went cheap on the Camaro.

I took mine off for the small performance gain. About 5 lbs off the front of the car and the intake will run cooler.

You wouldn't laugh at my last car. 98 SS that i took about 700 lbs out of and a lot of that was a bunch of little < 5lb stuff. With only bolt ons (stock cam, motor, no power adder) it dynoed 335 rwhp and ran a best of 11.04 @ 121 in the 1/4.

Taking weight out is the best mod you can do to a car.

I completely agree...like when I see a "large" guy talking about all the mods he will putting on his car...the first thing that comes to mind is for him to lose weight.

I removed my engine cover within weeks of getting my Camaro. I prefer the exposed look on engines and being able to see the hoses, fuel lines, clamps, etc.

Hey! That's the main reason I'm modding my car! Gotta add horsepower to haul my fat ass around quicker.

I leave my engine cover off. I don't like that it covers the radiator cap, among other critical things.
