[QUOTE=Gangster;2307108]in 1986 i bought a loaded mustang stickered at 14,300 when i say loaded i mean every available option including t roof
how much was a loaded iroc-z?????

since you asked

Really?? I don't remember that. A new Iroc Z from that year would've cost around 15K and all the way up to nearly 20K, depending on the options you added. They still sell Camaros at over 5K under msrp where you live??

The V6 in the mustang was adequate for when it came out. Also you realize a Camry V6 is basically as quick as a V6 Camaro? I am not a Camry fan, but lets put things in perspective here. And from what I am seeing it looks like plenty of gentlemen as well as ladies are buying the new Mustangs. Face it, both are great cars, both look good and perform great. Why must it always be a contest of of who's nuts swing lower around here? Some people will the prefer the Mustang, some the Camaro and some the Challenger, and far to many will get Camrys (ewwww, beige).

You're five years off. If it wasnt for the 2005 Mustang then the Charger, Challenger and Camaro would never come to pass.

The Camaro was a great *advance* to the modern American Muscle/Pony Car, but it did not bring the rebirth. As it was in 1964 and again in 2005..Ford has set the trend. GM raised the bar in 2009 with the 2010 Camaro, and Ford has responded.

History presents simple facts, and one fact is..GM has been a follower, not a trend setter. Chrysler did the same thing with its (pointlessly late) entry into the Pony Car segment with the 1970 Challenger.

By the way..it wasnt too long ago that the base Camaro had 200 HP too. 312 HP base is an obviously very recent event.

There are 2 Challengers and 2 Camaros in my neighborhood. Ford didn't have to do anything for 8 yrs while the Camaro was shelved. It would be like asking a convenience store clerk why he doesn't add a wider variety of inventory when his store is the only one within 20 miles of a neigborhood, he doesn't have to. As far as spending 50K on a Mustang that a "man would drive", well you drive a V6 Camaro so that remark is laughable...

Here in Southern Oregon the two local Chevy dealers (Airport Chevrolet and Town & Country Chevrolet) both have $4,999 "market adjustment value" on every Camaro they have.

For example..a summit white 2SS/RS A6 at Airport Chevrolet was marked up to over 44,000.

QFT...I'm a diehard Chevy guy, but you are dead on. Without the redesign of the Mustang in 05, this Camaro wouldn't be here. In the same breath, without GM upping the ante with the LLT and LS powerplants, the Mustang would still just be a looker. At least now we have cars that not only look good, but go fast doing it too!!!

Oh, I left the Chrysler cars out just to torment you a bit....lol...

Hey, I drive a v6 Camaro!! Men do indeed drive v6s ya know!!! Be it Mustangs or Camaros! Or 370zs, Challengers, etc.

Yes, I know who your post was directed at, but still...lol...

BTW, speaking of $50k Mustangs....the stealership in the town I police in has a $57.2k GT500 ragtop. Black with silver stripes, m6 car. Sweet!! Got to oogle it a bit the other day when their alarm went off and I found an open door. Nice car, although I still like the 05-09 rear ends better.

People would be "financially challenged" to pay that. When the can buy a 1 way ticket to somewhere where they are going for Invoice or a tad over.

Spend 200 bucks on a plane ticket. save 7K. If you don't have time to fly out,, then have it shipped.. and still save 6K or more.

I have driven a few V6 equipped vehicles in my life, even a 4 banger. None were quite as tough looking as the Camaro though...

Can you read?

From Reef's signature.."Built 308, Trick Flow heads, Trick Flow stage 1 cam, Vortech S-Trim pushing 8psi"

A bit more than 150HP..actually..he's probably a good three seconds faster than your Camaro, if not more.

Beware built, blown Foxbody Mustangs.

Is it weird I stopped reading it once it said he was using A6's for the test? You just don't buy a 400hp car without a stick.

Ohh well, maybe its just me.

It's just you. Automatics are used for consistency. Much less error prone to driver problems.

An A6 Mustang put down the fastest stock 5.0 time so far, 12.5X @ 114 IIRC..maybe 116, not sure.
