I guess this also depends on how much he plans to mod and what the wife wants since its going to be her car.
I had a lot of fun in my WRX that was heavily modified and was a lot faster than my SS stock but there is something about a v8 Exhaust note and instant power, no turbo lag that is very appealing to me. I would much rather have a V8 Supercharged over a V6 Turbo.

It's all a matter of preference.

1) You barely ran a stock V6 time, so driving skill is a replacement for displacement.

2) Go look at the times some of the FI guys are putting down. FI is a replacement for displacement.

3) Think about a Nissan GTR, only 3.8 L and it can take on a ZL1. Technology and dollars are a replacement for displacement.

heres a thought because threads like this never end up right. get the car you want. to me a v8 exhaust note is just that a note not a reason to buy a car. if you want a 660 + hp car you still would neeed suspension part and even if you do a cam on a v8 you will need them. if you want to be diffrent then turbo/sc your v6. as far as a dd see pic cruise 65 and 70 for 40 miles to make sure i was not seeing things and has the power of the v8

You quoted me but you evidently didn't read it all. Let me highlight it for you.

So, I never said it would be a GTR or anything like one. However, I hope to be able to put down similar 1/4 mile times to a stock one. Still need to get some more fuel to mine, but I'm already putting down more power and my suspension mods are pretty good for the strip. Slap on the slicks and skinnies and I've got a good shot at low 11s and maybe high 10s as it is. We'll see real soon.

BTW the ZL1 is sold as a road course ready car, not a drag strip car, so it is a fair comparison from that stand point. If you want to argue that an additional $30K in mods to the ZL1 would make it faster than a stock GTR, then fine but that's another point I made isn't it???

Times have changed. Displacement doesn't matter as much as it used to.

However you dont see race cars making smaller engines and adding forced induction to try to match a bigger motor without FI. Do you know something the race industry doesn't?

But you are right, far off topic. I go back to my first post for the OP. If it is your desire to have a high HP vehicle (you mentioned 800 HP Ram), then I would go with the cheapest option to make your wife happy. If she's satisfied with a stock V6 then just save the extra money to build/buy the monster you want at a later date.

One thing to keep in mind. Power being equal, the SS will be more reliable. You can throw away the warranty on a V6 to FI it and have power at or slightly above a stock SS. OR a stock SS (or in some cases mildly moded) a retain a warranty.

So far I have had zero issues with my car but you never know.

What's the reason to post the question v8 or 6? If you have the means to purchase either or, get the 8. All these posts ever do is cause a debate on who has the bigger stick. If you're going to buy a car just for exhaust sound ( ridiculous ) then do it. The 8 stock is making what the six is at the crank in hp. Either way you'll want to get more hp sooner or later. People with 6's are either comfortable with what they have and mod accordingly or they whine later about how they should have gotten an 8. I don't go to tracks so what I have is fine with me but after seeing the numbers Gretchen put up, I'm convinced the six is money well spent. That thing is an 8 killing machine. Go to the dyno sections and check what people have put down in their 8's and what mods they put in to get 25 to 50 over stock hp and then refer back to Gretchen a v6. You're going to spend money either way.
