L-99 and A-6 in a thirdgen? Questions...
Ok, long story short: I have a friend who owns a J/Y and he has several 5thgen camaros. I have already done the LS engine swap in one of my other 3rdgens, so I am not concerned with the physical aspects of the motor and trans swap.
My problem is this: I am thinking of doing the swap into my '86 IROC and would like to keep the six speed auto along with the "Paddle shift" feature on the back of the steering wheel. I currently have a new MOMO competition steering wheel and have heard there are kits to install paddles behind (Or in front of.) the hub adaptor. I can find no answers here (Or anywhere, for that matter.) about what parts I need to scavenge from the wrecked 5thgen to make all the trans features work. Is there a BCM (Body Control Module.) or TCM (Trans control module.) or other device I need to have? Sorry so long winded and thank you for your time! |

I'm surprised no one has anything to say about a 5thgen drivetrain on this site... Hmmm.

Look into the corvetteforum (forums.corvetteforum.com) and find some pics of the 08+ C6 steering wheel. Maybe you can use an LS3/A6 package from a donor 'vette since its steering wheel already has the paddles on it.
The A6 transmission isn't a true "paddle shifter" setup; it's just a slushbox with the geartronic capability remotely mounted on the steering wheel. I'm not sure what the schematic is but I'm sure a custom fabricator could remotely wire the transmission shift controls to any off the shelf paddle shifter kit. Your best bet though would be to just take a whole package system like the LS3/A6 and all the ECMs/harnesses right from the donor vehicle. At that point it's just fabricating plastic paddles and running the wires.

Thats what I was thinking as far as the paddles. The vette's use a rear mounted transaxle setup, so the trans from a vette wouldnt work in a thirdgen. Besides, my friend does not buy very many vettes, but he does buy lots of 5thgens.
Thanks for the reply! I really do appreciate it! |
