Between my '94 Camaro and my '12 Camaro, I feel like I'm always changing oil.

Actually I was joking too but I guess u got bent outta shape thinking I was actually gonna go to the v6 bolt on page. And when I said the line " coulda had a v8" and smack them in the head the only thing playing in my mind was the v8 juice commercial. So possibly u should chill a little.......

I used 8 quarts not 8.4. The Owners manual calls for 8.0 quarts with a filter change for my 2011 SS LS3. But I have read others mention 8.4. Why?

Thanks,

Bob

I replaced the original factory oil in my Camaro at about 2,100 miles. It was very clean so I used it to change the oil in my 2000 Subaru which only takes 4.2 qts with filter. So I have some left for the next oil change but not all. Just drove the Subaru on biz over 400 miles in 90+ degree weather and added another 1/2 qt, you know where that came from, ha. Engine has 187k on it too.

My dealer charges me $98.75 (before tax) to change the oil in my SS. For that price they also top off any fluids (windshield washer, etc.) that need it. They (supposedly) lube the door hinges and add air to tires if needed also.

Since I consider my time valuable, it is worth $40 to have someone else do it. I'm in and out within 1/2 hour and I don't have to crawl under my car on the garage floor, I don't need any "ramps", I don't have to dispose of the used oil, and I don't get my hands dirty.

PS: 2 gallons = 8 quarts. The SS takes almost 9 with filter.

this is understandable for some people. so no argument

i just have all this equipment, a lift, plenty of tools, oil disposal and everything available.. so it's easy to do it myself

to save money i just use about 5 qts in my LS3. Why use the recommended 8 qts.

EIGHT. QUARTS.

There is no way possible to determine if you were burning oil or not with those parameters. Just saying....

You have a Camaro SS, not a transportation appliance like a Corolla or Civic. You gotta pay to play.

OOOOOOOhh he calls me out.

After a hard day at work, I'm right here. You should run straight weight oil.

What are your bearing clearances? Did you have your engine blueprinted or are you just citing specs from your crate motor? Bigger cam big deal, it's a roller valvetrain right?

Thanks for being first to inform that these buckets hold 8 quarts of oil, I would have overflowed the drain pan I usually use and had a crappy night.

When I filled it with 8 qts 700 miles ago the oil level on the stick was right at the full mark and it is still at the full mark hence no oil burned and 8 qts is correct.
