Here is my problem. I have chips on both sides but car is no longer under warranty. Too many miles.

Show it to your dealer anyway. Tell them you'd like them to consider a goodwill repair. Especially bulletin items often get help after the warranty.

Just went and checked mine. Paint was chipping under the right rear side of the spoiler. Going to the dealership tomorrow with a printout of the service bulletin.

The dealership has ordered touch up paint and says that I should only get touch up paint and not have the whole wing painted. They said since it is barely visible, it is not worth ruining the factory paint job.

Should I push and have them paint my lid, or just take the touch up?

Of course you should push to have them paint your lid.

When I took mine in, we could only see a small 'chip' but once they took the spoiler off, then they saw how bad it was under it.

But even before they took the spoiler off, they told me they were going to repaint the entire lid without me asking for it. I would take less....

I prefer the touchup method and that is what I have done. Waiting on the dealership for the new shim kit. Also, I want to make sure that the shim kit works and that there are not going to be anymore chipping paint issues.

just noticed my silver ss has paint chips on both sides...

heres my question, i live in NJ with about 30 inches of snow so far this winter should i wait a couple months to take it to the dealer? I'm worried about them going cheap on the paint job and painting it while its 20-30 degress out

Just drove home my '11 2SS/RS on January 8th. I found this article today and checked it out and I too have the chips on my trunk lid. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow....

Definitely one of those instances where ignorance is bliss.

I actually noticed them in December but the car was just off insurance and under the cover for winter. I want to have the whole thing repainted but afraid since I have IOM and stripes. :(
