I agree with RobZL1. That part gets showered with everything the front tires touch...Dirt, rubber, brake dust, rocks, and the like. The spot behind the rear wheel isn't as bad IMO, most I see gathered there is a little road dust/rubber but being as the fender curves away from the tire (Instead of swelling out to catch it like Rob's red area) and there's a bit of a "mud flap" at the rear of the rear tire well, I don't see that getting as much damage.

I used a set of these on the front. The fit was great, they screw into the existing holes in the lower rockers. Took about 15 minutes to install and they look factory.
