Camaro 1LE vs. Camaro ZL-1

No not in a drag race but in the handling characteristics. I notice in the Japolink write up on the 1LE the editor said this,"The car does have more understeer than the ZL1, especially in the faster turns, and I wish the brakes were updated and not just painted. They just don't live up to the incredible handling available, but it certainly wasn't a deal breaker. The gearbox ratios are tuned for the racetrack and the throw is short and tight. For the price, its performance is not that far from that of its big brother." Now I would have thought that the 1LE would have been more neutral all round with the 20x10s all round and no blower in the front end, but seems like the ZL-1 with more power to the rear, more weight with the 9" rear end balancing the weight distribution more than the 1LE makes the ZL-1 the more neutral handler which shocked me but not so much after closely analyzing both setups. It is true that more power to the rear wheels can make a car more neutral around corners and I have experienced this many times in the past but I still see the 1LE as being the more toss friendly platform in events like autocrossing and so on. What say you.

I'd love the opportunity to compare them. Personally I'm drawn to high revving NA motors and there is talk that the 1LE can walk a Boss as I would expect following the car to market with a well sorted IRS. Not buying the 4 second VIR advantage though.

At then end of the day I suspect price will be the biggest deciding factor between the two King Camaros.

Don't forget 1LE has larger 27mm front stabilizer bar to offset the square tire sizes.

Sorry I forgot to mention that but My current setup has the ZL-1 rear 28mm bar with H&R front 28mm bar with staggered setup and corners very freaking neutral but of course the stock cars don't have the full equipment I have. My car with even tires front and rear would be even better. Just thought the 1LE should be more neutral than say my car is. Also spring rates and strut/ shock stiffness plays an important role as well.

You and me both. I was also hoping for the a more neutral car with less body motion.

The 1LE doesn't have 20x10 wheels all the way around, just the same size tires.

Yep 9" fronts and 10" rears. 285 on all fours to help with understeering(in addition to all of the suspension mods GM did)

I assure you there are not 20x9s up front or anywhere on the 1LE. The last correct I heard was 20x10s all round. ZL-1 fronts on all four corners.

This guy has it correct. You can look at the brochure for confirmation if you need it.

1LE weighs 260 lbs less than a ZL1. So if you could get about 100 hp more out of the LS3 you would have a hell of a car. That is 100 naturally aspirated, not forced induction with 100-120 lbs extra weight on the front end.
