It doesn't matter what the players get, the owners make more.

and its real simple, those who make the money get the money, its the player folks pay to see, not owners in million dollar stadium boxes.

So the players get the majority of said money maid.

Now if you want them to make less, force owners to charges less for tickets n tshirts so it trickles down right and everyone makes less / payless.

I see a strike coming.

I agree with Mailman. When you go to a game and have a 4 person family, it will cost you about $300.00 just for the tickets, $20.00 to park and eats could run you 60 to 80 more. You are looking at around $400.00 which is RAPE!!!! I do agree the owners don't need to make anymore but the players don't either. Make it more affordable for familys to go to the game and they would increase revenues that way. This next part is interesting. This is the league minimum with no NFL experience:

In 2008, $295k
In 2009, $310k

In 2010, $325k

In 2011, $340k

In 2012, $355k

The NFL Players Union and the NFL owner's usually construct a new "minimum salary" deal every 4 or 5 years.

*** These numbers are accurate but are for players with zero years experience, i.e. rookies. The amounts go up with player experience, topping out at $845,000 in 2009 for players with 10 or more years experience. Also, unlike some or much of the money in the very high dollar contracts of the top players, none of this money is guaranteed. You have to play to get it.

Here's the whole chart through 2010:

Credited Seasons 2008 2009 2010

0 $295,000 $310,000 $325,000

1 $370,000 $385,000 $400,000

2 $445,000 $460,000 $475,000

3 $520,000 $535,000 $550,000

4-6 $605,000 $620,000 $635,000

7-9 $730,000 $745,000 $760,000

10+ $830,000 $845,000 $860,000

Does it matter? Regardless of whether pay is cut, a large number of these athletes will get endorsement deals outside of their contracts, adding millions to their income.

I also have trouble believing that owners have trouble paying for anything, especially considering the gargantuan mounds of cash spent on team sponsorship and stadium advertising.

There's a lot of money in sports, and this just rearranges that functionless money. Imagine if half the money invested in sports went toward medical research, feeding the hungry, or helping the helpless.

The money exists because people pay to see the sports that they love... if you gave away half of that money to any number of more noble causes you'd see a huge drop off in revenue.

and yes... I understand that you weren't meaning that they should do that literally.

Not really a good battle to pick here ... there are plenty of other more obvious, and more useless, ways of spending money.

If the players dont like they shouldnt play. Someone else would step up for that amount of money asap. Nobody stopped them from becoming doctors or business execs. Why shouldnt the owners decide how much they want to offer players? The make money off jersey sales and endorsements also. F them.

It is a private organization, with private workers (players)

The boss sets the wage, if you won't do it for that wage, you should look elsewhere for employement.

If the boss (owner/ CEO etc) is making huge profits while paying peanuts (percentage wise) to their workers, the workers should think about looking for new work.

If players refuse to play for those wages, no game takes place, no game = no tickets= no money for the owner.

If the owner thinks he can recruit quality replacements that people will pay (the same amount) to watch-- then the boss will likely try to fill the slots. If not, the boss will need to negotiate with the skilled workers an agreed upon wage. They need each other- No owner= no stadium. No players = no revenue.

So- No I don't believe in salary caps. Your qualities and what you bring to the table determine what you make.

When you see 6 and 7 figure incomes, it is easy to say "they make enough" -- but in reality who am I to say you make too much. If I think you charge too much for your product, I will not buy it.
