Cam spring advice

Just after some advice for the correct valve spring kit for a brian Tooley 227/234 614' 578 113+2 camshaft , the reason I ask is it has comp 918s at the moment rated to 625' lift and one spring broke over the weekend, the car had the cam done less than 8 month ago, and never driven hard.
Im alittle be wildered why its broken, is the 918 is the culprit??

Not enough cushion for the springs limit would be my guess. You're not supposed to run a spring at or near the limit of its lift.

I would consider moving to BTR's .660 platinum double spring kit if I were you and never look back.

Having had trouble with a spring I would have to agree you should have had springs more in the .650 range and may have just gotten a bad spring or had a over rev weaken the spring. Your lucky if you have not had engine damage and the second spring saved it. You may just have gotten a bad spring.

I fully recommend the btr660's as well, but not because of the lift rating. They are just a better spring.
Lots of other reasons the 918 could have broke. Springs weren't broken in properly, install height was wrong, bad spring out of the bunch, etc. Or the cam lobes are too aggressive even for only 614 lift. If a spring is rated for .625 lift then it is designed to handle that much lift when installed and used properly.
I chose the btr660 for my build, which has a 232/240 .654/629 pat g cam, and I fully expect the springs to perform well, because I installed them properly and will break them in properly.

We use the BTR .660 Platinum Springs in our camshaft packages. We haven't had any issues to date.

You are very lucky there was not engine damage as the 918's are a single beehive.
I had the 918's as well but changed to the BTR .660's because I wanted the security of the dual spring and I heard lots of good things.

Another vote for BTR .660. However you could just call Brian Tooley and see what he recommends for his cam...

Ok guys thanks for the replies.....
The car is back on the road, the tuner put in BTR Dual kit, and im alittle bemused but reakons it had comp 650' lift single springs but on my invoice its says the part numbers for 918s and furthermore I have the comp box with my std springs which is for 918's, never the less, one spring snapped clean in half, no damage to the engine, so I got extremely lucky on this one, but im very happy the shop did the right thing and fixed the car and new springs for free....happy days are here again .

I've seen way too many people talk about the BTR .660 springs. Don't have them personally yet, but when I get my build done, i'm using those

Texas Speed has a .660 lift spring kit using pac doubles on special right now! You can also get a tsp camshaft with Callies camshaft core in 5150 or 8620 materials! As you can imagine a Callies core is top notch and so a cam failure is very unlikely!
