How many times am I going to hear, why didn't you just buy a Corvette?

I took my Camaro out of storage where it's been since November (no problems starting or anything). Even though it's been covered inside I wanted to wash it and just take it for a spin. A guy at the storage building that has his 1970 Mustang wanted to check out my Camaro. After about 5 minutes he asked me what it cost and I told him that my SS/RS is loaded out and was around $40K. Then he said "for that kind of money why didn't you just buy a Corvette!" I had forgotten how annoying that question was, since I had not driven the car in almost 5 months obviously I haven't heard the question in 5 months. I told him like I have told everyone else that has asked me, because I preferred the styling of the Camaro more than the Corvette.

I bet I have been asked; "why didn't you just buy a Corvette" about 25 times. Don't get me wrong, I love the Corvette and I would like to have one but it was my choice to buy the Camaro. It's like the Corvette is supposed to be the pinnacle of car ownership or something. Why do people assume that even though you bought a Camaro, your real desire was to own a Corvette? You just settled for the lesser car?

Why didn't I just buy a Lamborghini? Why didn't you just buy a 10,000 square foot house? Why, why, why.....what is the comment "why didn't you just buy a Corvette" supposed to mean??

I can't believe I am the only one that has been asked this question. If others have been asked what has your response been? Give me some suggestions on how to respond to this question since I have no doubt I will be asked numerous times in the future like I have been asked in the past.

Russ

I find that funny, for a new vette don't they start at like 75,000? My camaro is gonna cost around 48k(cnd) and it was fully loaded, 2SS RSS polished wheels, rally stripes etc. Was quoted almost double when asked what a vette was worth. Sure you can get a used vette for a decent price but like you said you prefer the camaro

A Z06 starts around $75K (USD). A base Corvette isn't much more than a fully loaded Camaro SS. A base Corvette - Same LS3 engine, starts around $49K (USD). I don't want the base Vette, I want at least the Z06, hence my Camaro SS purchase

I've sat (not driven) in a Z06 Vette and it fit me MUCH better!

I have never been a Corvette fan. I mean I appreciate them all, but not for me!

I'd look as out of place sitting in a Vette than Lil' Wayne would sitting in a Bentley. The car simply doesn't fit my personality.

You should have asked him why didn't he buy a '67 Shelby.

I've been ask this question many times, my answer is I could have (a lie) , but the camaro is more comfortable (the truth). I like the camaro better than the vette. Did you notice as soon as they came out with the camaro they jacked the price of the vette up 10K?

"Why did you buy a V6?" "Why did you get a camaro at all if you were just going to get a V6?" "A V6 in a sports car?"

i get these questions every time i tell a guy about me car. it doesnt help if they know that for the price i paid for my car, i could have gotten a 1SS.

Love the look of the vettes, test drove one and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoy my Camaro.

I've heard the "Why didn't you get the v8?" a few times.

Usually those are the people that would buy a v8 automatic.
Ok, so you ask me why I didn't get a v8 because it is more powerful, yet you paid more for less horsepower in your car? Makes me think the only reason they got the v8 was to feel more superior than someone who got the v6. That or they are too lazy/afraid to drive stick.

I don't mean to insult anyone. I believe to each their own. But, I just don't care for the looks of a Corvette. I much prefer the Camaro.

I have both, but I understand what your saying I hear the same thing. What I find is the people who will never buy A Camaro in there life and only dream about it ask that Question. I like being on our side and making our dreams come true. So let them dream about what we drive.

I get both the "Why didn't you get the V8?" and the "Why didn't you get the Corvette?"

My answer to both: I'm only 17 and still in high school. I'm already working my ass off for this car. And then when I tell them it's a V6 with 304 hp they shut up pretty quick. lol
