The ZL1 is going to be my 50th birthday gift. Now I cannot wait to turn 50 in 2013.

Oh yeah the exhaust noise is hot.

Can't wait to see the car in some different colours and how much power the beast makes.... must say i prefer it with the SSX wheels (it's a personal taste thing i suppose).

Oh and can we get off the whole Zed/Zee issue.... at the end of the day the language is English and in English it's pronounced Zed..... the end!!!

I'm looking forward to some vids of the finished ZL1 getting the wheels driven off it

Thus if you modify a zl1 you can expect to take the same "stock" parts off and replace with aftermarket that are better matched to the new power levels. For example. if you decide to move up from a small blower to a larger then how is that palette any better than a SS palette? What makes you think the zl1 will not require a new fuel delivery if you up the power. Granted the zl1 rear end at least on the surface looks like it may not need upgraded to move up in power and torque which is a huge plus. Look into the stock internals in the projected zl1 motor and you will find that you will be doing a new rotating assembly just like the SS's Still running thru the exact same TR6060 so that weak point is already known. So I guess what I am saying is that the same performance levels can be achieved in a zl1 for 75K vs SS at 60K. But I do like the hood, splitter and facia.. Oh and if i did not already have a Camaro and was in the market.. I would by a ZL1 in a heartbeat!
I don't think that the the ZL1 and SS palettes are the same given the ZL1's Magnetic Ride Suspension, rear end, front fascia (which is not compatible will SSs), etc. However, if one believes that the palette is the same for all Camaros, with that reasoning one should start with an LS and achieve the same performance for $40K instead of $60K as with an SS. Kudos to anyone who can achieve the all around performance of a ZL1 with an LS given a total budget of $40K.

I agree with OldScool that Camaros are about much more than the engine. Camaros are about all around performance, handling, styling, and affordability. I think it's great that Chevrolet offers an LS Camaro with 312 HP for less than $23K. I think that's a great value. I also believe that the ZL1 will be a great value given the performance it will achieve straight from the factory. The ZL1 is the 5th Gen Camaro for which I've been waiting almost 6 years to purchase.

You need to adjust your eyes. Victory red looks like an old tomato. Nothing like that gorgeous torch red whatsoever.

This should force the C7 out of the development room but fast. Oh and my little SS cant wait to come across one at the track.. So sad too bad my little zl1 brother.
2010 SS, your car sounds great. How streetable is your machine and how much did your MPG drop?

Hmmmmm...so sad when you make one wrong move with that pricey custom motor and have a very expensive pile of junk and a 4 wheel paper weight in your driveway, while we can take ours to the dealer under warranty when it grenades....muuuuhaaahaaahaaaa.. Besides...we will bracket race anyway...you can't purchase driver skills at the speed shop....

As for the colour of the car in the video, the fact that it was taken on an overcast day probably doesn't help it any ...

I just had it re tuned down to 650 rwhp down from 732 rwhp for exactly that reason. I wanted more streetablility and to keep the tranny, driveshaft and rear end in place until I can upgrade those components. At this level it drives just like a stock SS until I stick my foot in it and then there is no mistake that the torque and HP throw it forward with unmistakable vigor. My milage on our last rally which was from Denver to South Park (where cartman is from) up and over Hooser pass elevation 12,000 ft down thru Breckenridge and back up and over Loveland Pass elevation 12,000 ft and back to Denver. 242 miles round trip and averaged 22.5 miles per gallon. On flat land trips I am averaging 26 MPG. Now keep in mind 650 RWHP=750 Crank HP. There is no way to mimmick the magnetic suspension and that is clearly a nice upgrade and no one will be competing with that on the street. Can a aftermarket suspension be better? In terms of performance I think so but not in terms of overall streetable and quiet performance.

You have that correct. The warranty issue is pretty important but few stock zl1's will be hitting the track in stock configuration. They will require NHRA modifications to race with and like anyone else at the track will want to be faster. Love the bracket race delay tree competition. But that same analogy can be said for a stock SS vs ls1. Both should be in the 10.50 to 13.99 time brackets. Like I did say.. not bashing the Zl1..love it and if I did not have the SS would most certainly buy it off the floor. All I was saying is that there are going to be 2 or 3 modified SS's for every zl1's out there that will eat them for lunch. Start modifications on a Zl1 and its going to end up in the 75 to100K range by the time they are done. I really dont think there will be many grenades in the motor as it is already a proven dependable component.
