Unhappy key and programing ???

Hello and sorry that i havent been on all winter while car was in storage.-- But i want to get a second key/fob for my 2010 SS,, Dealer said dealer only item and send out with vin to get cut...--- Saw a sight on internet that has a fob/key and says that it comes with instructions for me do do the programing myself ? and i would just need to find a key cutter guy/gal that can cut it... The sight was RemotesAndKeys.com, The key they post is four buttons and ident in pic as mine and list same part # as my one gm one that i have--[I think thier # was RAK P/N 7085]--So my question is can we program our own keys to our veh and do you think this IS not possable ?? and/or any sight that will sell and cut with a good price.--Any info will help as im not up much on my SS yet ,, working on it tho...

Yes we can program the fob ourselves in about 30 seconds. It really is that quick.

As for cutting the keys, no. The equipment to cut these keys are in the tens of thousands of dollars. Not even dealers have the ability to cut the keys so they must be sent off to GM to be cut.

I would just go the dealer route. A cut key from a dealer is about $40. Where as buying a uncut key plus shipping, plus paying to ship it to GM to be cut plus whatever they charge to cut it will cost you more.

For programming it yourself, see the second post on the following thread:

Yep.

1) Put in old key and turn to the "On" position.
2) Quickly remove old key and insert new key and turn it to the "On" position.
3) Wait a few seconds until you see a message on the DIC saying "New key Programmed"

$41.60 plus shipping if you have remote start or $28.60 if you do not have remote start.

Since this website is a dealership, I bet if you call or send a pm to patrickt (who is a member here on this website) and give them your key information they could get it cut for you as well.

the key will have to be cut first. then the key and fob will be programmed using this method.

Note:

To initiate, this procedure requires that 1 learned key be available.
A total of 8 keys maybe be learned to a single vehicle.
This procedure adds keys only. The procedure does not erase previously learned keys.
The keys to be learned must duplicate the mechanical cut of the current key.

1. With a previously learned key, turn the ignition ON.
2. Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning OFF the ignition, insert the key to be learned and turn ON the ignition. The vehicle has now learned the new key and key.
