Oil Change

How many of you guys did the Mobil 1 oil and filter change at home?
Obviously my next questions is how do I clear the codes on the dash?
Please dont tell me not having my oil changed at my scum bag dealership will somehow void my warranty.

i do it at home. Cost between 50-60 bucks to do it. Autozone usually has mobil one sales. You clear your dash by resetting it, i beleive by holding it down, otherwise check your manual. But I like to do the oil on my camaro because to me it's not hard I like to do it and it saves the risk of some 18 year old drop out from forgetting to tighten something or put scratches on it. Not to mention with 8qts and filter you are probably looking at close to 100 oil change

YEP, I do them all teh time.....all three of my cars.....buit EXPECIALLY my camaro.....just ensure you get enough oil.....a lot of people....believe it or not.....have no idea that the V8 takes 8 quarts.

these instructions are in your owners manual starting on page 10-13

I can assume the CODE your talking about is the "A CHANGE ENGINE
OIL SOON" in the DIC....After changing the engine oil, reset
the system:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON/RUN with the engine off.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message is not on, the system is reset.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message comes on again and stays on for 30 seconds at the next ignition cycle, it did not reset. The system needs to be reset again.

.OR if you are talking anouty in the DIC and it hasn't given you the message above, but still showing a percentage %, go to the menu.....get to the OIL Percentage and then hold down the button on the end of the flasher.....it will ask you are you sure? and push it again and your done. it resets to 100%

There is a section in the manual that will tell you how to reset the oil life sensor.

Aren't they all? If you go to a dealer you'd better be armed with one thing.....knowledge.

I've seen good dealers and bad dealers....they are in it to make a profit. Like you said be armed w/knowledge and a bit of courtesy - that goes both ways. Ultimately they should be looking for your return business, if not then go somewhere else. Fortunately for us there's not much required maintenance required on these cars. Thanks GM!

Do it yourself....But...I use Pennzoil full synthetic, since I verified it is Dexos 1 approved. Easiest oil change I ever did. Took 5 minutes and didn't even get dirty.

I have always changed my own oil, not only is it a cost savings but while you are under there you have time to take a look around and see if anything else is going on.

I just may have to start using that instead of "RTFM".

All I did after changing the oil was the DIC reset using the button reset. What is all that other stuff you listed?
