Long Tubes or Mid Length Headers?

I've been looking for headers to put on my 02 SS for some time now. I have been wanting long tubes w/ a 3 inch Y-pipe, but ran across the Mac mid-length headers also w/ y-pipe. Here's my dilemma. The long tubes are supposed to put out the most hp from what I understand. But they do hang low and will scrape the ground. I wouldn't run cats w/ them. Then, I saw the Mac mid lenght w/ y-pipe minus cats. From what I remember, the mid length don't put out as much hp, but I just don't know. They wouldn't scrape the ground like long tubes. Looking at the Mac mid length, it appears as though the way they hook up to the y-pipe, they might as well just be long tubes.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Which ones do I go for???

well long tubes do make more power. usually. do power comparisons (pardon my spelling). also what are you looking at running? 1/4 1/8th or just want power? lol. personally i'd go with the mid. i had them on the TA and I produced plenty of power. at least for me. if I had been a better driver that ta would have been in the 12's. I was in the mid 13's and I was a crappy driver. I learned how to drive a stick in that car. big mistake. but oh well. live and learn. but that's what I would get mids.

I have always read that the long tube headers are the better performer . I have them on my 74 and love them. On the down side I have scraped them more than once on sh*tty roads. Tag my advice to you is to build the car on how it is going to be used. Is a few extra horses worth the aggravation or the worry?

Well, I've heard the longtubes are the way to go for more hp.

I have the SLP lt's on the SS and I love them. And I haven't had any "issues". Yes, they hang a little low, but I clear speed bumps just fine (going over them slowly), and have never banged/scraped mine.

I'm looking for good hp gain, but I think losing 5 or so hp would be better than tearing up the pipes and having to worry about every bump. I wanted the SLP's, but those are just going to be way out of my price range. This is my everyday driver. So, going over the sh#tty roads is an everyday thing here. Those Mac's, with the way they hook up to the y-pipe, seem to just look like long tubes. I doubt the Mac's would put out that much less hp than long tubes. I wish I could find a comparison on the dyno w/ the mods I've done so far. I'm sure I could get quite a few extra hp w/ those Macs.

The scrape factor is why they even make other sizes over long tubes.
