Rims corroding..

Has any else had this issue? All four of my rims seem to be corroding, some worse than others? The car is a 2010 ss, has anyone else had this happen to their rims and if so what did you do about it? Or is it chevy/ the dealerships issue? Thanks

No never, just use water and a rag to clean the rims

wing NJ I bet it's fromroad salt, you may have had bad clear coat on the rims and the salt from the wet roads is causing corrosion. Won't be cheap to fix.

Didn't think about salt being the issue cause it it only really happened and got bad recently (past couple months). Could this issue be under warranty of some type, the rims shouldn't be corroding like that...?

You must clean your wheels at least once a week especially with NJ winters. My '10 SS
polished wheels are still fine after 5 years. It's obvious you didn't keep up with them.
Also, I doubt that damage just showed up in the "last couple of months". That's salt
getting under the clear coat. Just my opinion.

the car doesnt get driven that much in winter but no i dont clean them as much as i should.. it was never this bad till i really looked at them and washed the car today. guess it will be cheaper to get some rims next summer and keep these for winter

There are places that do re-finish them. Maybe someone on here is more familiar with what kind of results and cost that would be.

I've only seen this once. I work on a car lot, and we recently got in a 2LT/RS that has that same issue. Looks just like yours, but not quite as much of it.

It's called Filiform or "underfilm" corrosion, thus why it spreads in that unique way. Salt, dirt, or moisture manages to break though the clearcoat and causes corrosion to spread under the clearcoat.

Only fix is to strip off the factory clear, sand away all traces of corrosion and refinish; or, if desired, maintain as bare aluminum.

Yep. Been trying to get mine fixed under warranty since May. No dealerships want to mess with it, and my CSR is useless.

I see some curb rash in one pic, that always helps get it started. And neglect.
Brake dust eats your wheels up.
