Z28 To Mod or Not?
Hello everyone... Feel like I already know a lot of you. I have been on the site everyday for the last 3 months and decided today was the day to join... I have lots of questions but will limit them in this initial post. My main question is if and when the Z28 comes out would you feel comfortable doing some Modifications or would you want to order the car with only factory Mods...?
I am not against Mods and like what a lot of the owners have done to their cars. (Some are a little over the top for my tastes). For instance if you did not like the exhaust on the Z28 would that be an o.k. Mod to make... Thanks for such a wonderful site Camaro5!!! |

IMO, it's just that, an opinion. Some people enjoy personalizing their cars. Z28 or not, there will always be some mods you might want to do to make it your own. So, sure, why not mod the Z28 - after getting whatever GM options you might want to buy. Over the top mods are, once again, a personal opinion. I may not agree with what you want to do, or have done, but it's not my car or my taste. Take criticism with a grain of salt... Enjoy it!

If the car has the same engine as the CTS-V then I would follow what they are doing and how reliability has been affected (if at all). That would be a good starting point .. as far as modding ... you know as well as I do once you start it is a drug I don't believe the LSA is a fully forged engine (like the LS9) so you may have to keep that in mind.
If you are looking at keeping the warrenty, then your choices would be limited I'm sure ... If not, the sky (and money) is the limit !!

to answer your question,i would order a Z28 the way you want it from the factory.if and when you get one,you will know what you want to do with it,as far as any mods.the things i have done to my car came from posts on the forum.

First off Welcome!
As far as aftermarket mods are concerned I am all about them if they are proven to be better than what is offered by the factory. In alot of cases aftermarket companie's like Borla manufacture the over the counter GM High Performance exhausts for the 2010 2011 Camaros. Now to the Z28, I am going to see how choked the new Z28 is when it is released. My good friend Jim has a 2009 CTS-V and he is putting down 578HP at the rear wheels with some tuning and some quality aftermaket parts. The video is on you tube under HPJIM. I own one 198 Nassau Blue FRC Corvette's and I sent it to Kateck. My car is putting 468HP to the rear wheels! Building a car is all in what you are looking to get out of it! I will tell you one thing. When I get my new Z28 and if it has the LSA motor it will have the following brands installed on my car: Kook's Long Tube Headers Donaldson Balckwing Air Induction Corsa Exhaust Hurst Shifter |

Thank you for the feedback. Totally agree with the fact that you should build the car out they way you want it and enjoy it. Who cares about a few peoples opinions.. Never know what their motivation is for that opinion. My main question is around the resale value say 15-20 years down the road. Of course I do not plan to sell the car but things in life can change... When I bought a 69 Vette 427/ AC about 15 years ago I made sure everything for the most part was numbers matching. When I sold it a few years back to make room for the 68 Camaro, the car had increased in value very nicely and was easy to sell. I love some of the exhausts and engine upgrades that are available now. I do believe the quality in most cases is better than from the manufacture. I would hate to make an upgrade to something only to find out 15 years from now I should have left things alone...

Welcome to the Z28 waiting list! I am waiting for the Z28 also and honestly if the car comes with the LSA S/C engine, 6 piston Brembos, Hurst shifter, ram air hood, taller spoiler and upgraded drive line and suspension parts, I will probably not do much to the car. Any parts that I do exchange, I will keep the originals just in case I sell the car one day. Cars are all about the individual owner and his or hers individual tastes. Make it what you want for yourself and enjoy it. Remember "When you turn your car on, does it return the favor"! Welcome to Camaro5.

Yes I will mod my Z28, however the very act of purchasing a Z28 is that my mods would be much more moderate than on an SS, however, things like exhaust, intake, computer mods and Dyno tune would definitely happen. Anything else would be dependent on options available, I hate to admit it but if the Z28 isn't factory supercharged, I may kick myself for not already having an 2SS/RS. I would be remiss as well for not having a 2SS/RS already if the Z28 doesn't have coil-overs as standard equipment too. I suppose I am expecting a lot out of the Z28, however I'd assume a 50K+- price tag to go with it.

Definitely....Already talked to Mikey at Rapid Motorsports about swapping the LSA blower out for the LS9 blower. He will tune the car as soon as I get it. I will have Richard at WCCH touch up the heads. Full exhaust and full Spohn Suspension.

If you're concern is long-term resale value I don't see anything wrong with mods that can be removed and replaced with the stock parts you saved when the time comes to sell.
I think it's a pretty safe bet that a collectible classic car will almost always be worth more the closer it is to its original configuration. ...oh yeah, a big from Derby!
