Air Intake advice
I want to put an aftermarket Air Intake system in my 2LT V6 so I can get a little more horsepower. Since I don't know much about all that type of stuff I need some advice as to what will be the best one for my Camaro and at reasonable price.

Only one I've seen so far for the V6 is the one from GM Performance Parts, and they don't list a price for it.

Keep an eye on this page form time to time.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16893 But right now there aren't any available becasue the gmpp one for both v8 and v6 is not out yet. I don't read the v6 forums but I'm sure there are several companies working on them as there are for the v8's. As for which is the best thats hard to say, best for me means biggest HP gain with dyno tests to prove it. |

you going to have to wait till fall till the aftermarket companies catch up. But intakes is like anybody guess in which one is the best. My opinion without getting exhaust and a tune, its worthless. Just get k&N

It shouldn't be a big deal to wait a few months. I'm not going to hand over my car to a garage for mods until winter hits and I can't drive it anyway.

I was at the dealer the other day and they have one in the works. Problem is well the company went bankrupt. So they are delaying alot of stuff right now. Not forever just a little while. The intake they had ran in the 300 dollar range. On the side note be careful when using K&N air filters. May void your warranty because certain people do not re-oil them properly causing problems. Just giving everyone a heads up.

I am waiting for either K&N or Hennessey to produce a V6 CAI - I've messaged both with my interest:
K&N email tech@knfilters.com; Hennessey sales@hennesseyperformance.com - the more that inquire the sooner products will show up. See this thread http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26961 for info on upcoming AIRAID intake. As for the GM Air Box here's a link http://www.gmpartsdirect.com, search on part # 92212304 - List price is $450, discounted price is $327.60. Looks more like a chrome cover and unsure of performance specs - it is not CAI as I understand.

Airaid's V6 proto testing is all done and the molds are being done. They don't like to give dates cause it comes back to bite you if you have to make a change (yes sometimes the production part won't make the numbers the proto did. This really pisses everyone off). I think you'll see these sometime in July (my guess).
And yes Airaid makes quality stuff including their own filter which are the only combination cotton AND synthetic on the market. The syn gives better filtration and acts as a barrier to the oil passing thru. |

We have one we need to test on a V6, if only someone in Western NY would stop by our shop so we can test fit, and then schedule some dyno time for testing, of course it is free of charge.

There was this post in the v6 mods thread that is still the big question mark for me. Based on this information, all these mods will produce no performance increase until sombody figures out how to reprogram this PCM. Am I reading it right and is that something folks in at GMPP and the aftermarket community have in their plans?

You may get an increase in the pull rught after the install, but the bosch will quickly learn down the increase. The bosch med9x system is based on % torque demand from the driver. There is a max torque and an Airmass table that dictate what cyl filling shall be. It will then adjust throttle angle ,cam timing, ignition timing in that order to achieve the closest match it can to the requested airmass table. It is something we have been battling in the LNF camp for a few years now. |
