My recent visit to local Chevy dealer - no camaro until 2011?

Like most everyone else, I have been wanting one of these Camaro's for some time now (my first two new cars, 1980 Z-28, 1984 Z-28). Now that my kids are grown, it's my turn again to have one. I was hoping to get one ordered about Christmas time (no finance). Today I went with my daughter to look at some new and used cars for her. I asked about any Camaro's and the first dealship told me the sold the only two they would be getting at $10,000 over sticker price (rip off). And they were not very helpful looking for a new car for my daughter. First it took a while for a salesman to come and meet us after the receptionist paging someone over and over. She said they were all in the back doing something. As I was walking out, someone finally came to the front.

At the 2nd dealership, they had three Camaro's and all of them sold. One guy was just picking up his yellow 2SS. I got to hear it run, it was sweet. Anyway the salesman told me if I wanted one, I would have to put $5000 down and it would be sometime in 2011 before I would get it if I ordered it today. Does this sound right?

I know there is a high demand but come on!

My dealership asked me for $500 deposit and I got it for MSRP. I ordered my car on 04/27/09 and won't have it until mid Sept. sometime as long as GM doesn't file bankruptcy. Who knows what will happen if they do.

WT? Maybe you will have to travel a ways to find one or order one?

After looking around on this site, I see that is the norm for some dealerships. I did find a dealerlisting here that showed who sales at MSRP. I feel better now. Hopefully I will have a GREAT Christmas!

$5000 down and 2011? Don't let them take you for that ride. If you can't find any local guys to work with you, I bet CamaroScotty would be glad to work with you and get a car ordered and drop-shipped when you're ready

the down-payment isnt a huge deal considering its money towards the car anyways, but yeah 2011 wtf.. you can find a dealer to get it way faster then that.

What part of Oklahoma are you in? I ordered mine at Frontier in El Reno for MSRP and no deposit. I know they can't tell you when you might get the car, if they do they are just guessing. Some of us have been waiting since last October and we don't know when we are going to get ours. But production just started in March and they are ramping up and I don't think your wait would be nearly as long as ours.

By the way > Howdy from a fellow Okie! Most of the dealers in the OKC area are _______s (insert your own expletive!)

This is one awesome car. Definitely worth the wait!

I was told that by a local dealer. I was like you're a moron, thanks for your time.

By the way, what part of Oklahoma are you from? I'm 15-20 NE of Tulsa.

Thank goodness with the reorganization of GM, these "little" worthless dealers will be shut down and hopefully we'll be left with some good guys!

The salesman was probally preoccupied with trying to figure out where he will be working when:

1) GM goes Bankrupt
2) GM downsizes & his Dealership gets the gate
3) GM can't gets parts b/c all the suppliers went bankrupt from Chrslyer

either way, you have the cash and you know what....

salespeople say whatever their bosses tell them to say.
They may be a small dealer with very few allocations, but i can tell you that they are adding allocations all the time.
production is ramping up and i would be surprised if it took more than 3-4 months to build your car.
