Question Sound Quality of Audio Integrations' Perfect Fit Enclosure vs a Custom Built One

I was quoted $700 by a local installer to build and install a custom fiberglass enclosure for my JL 10w6v2 sub in my 2011 Camaro and make it look pretty close to a stock install. However, I stumbled across Audio Integrations who already sells a $330 custom fiberglass enclosure that looks pretty damn good IMHO and matches the specs of my JL sub perfectly!

My question is simply - is there any reason I should have my local guy build me a box? Would he be able to get better sound quality out of his enclosure over Audio Integration's?

Thanks!

check the ******** drivers or passenger side enclosure... WAY less expensive, great build quality and they are a forum sponsor to boot.

Thanks for the link! I checked them out but it looks like their box is too big. I need about .6 - .7 cubic feet of space inside and that looks closer to 1-2 cubic feet; it's also about a third heavier.

That's a good deal at 329. JL's is 849 for a 12" and doesn't look as good.

We have a smaller side mount version that is .8 cu.ft. After displacement, it would be right on target and it's not very heavy at all. http://********.com/Chevrolet-GMC-Su...Enclosure.html
Either way, there's no need to spend a 2-3x for a so called custom. The ones offered on this forum are as good or better than anything out there. Because if they don't have the design already, then they'll likely have to use your car as the mold. With a pre-designed enclosure, all that work is already done for you. I certianly wouldn't want someone using that stinkin' messy stuff inside my new car.

x2 on that... fiberglass stinks before its 100% cured and there is always a chance that your going to drip some somewhere...

personally, I will be getting the ******** dual enclosure, having the sub holes cut on the cabin-side of the enclosure instead of the trunk side (so the subs fire into the cabin), tearing off the carpet (unless I can order it without the carpet) and doing some glass work to it for amp trim panels on the trunk side, before it goes into the car ... IMO - why reinvent the wheel when Steve has already done it.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback. I decided to get the Audio Integrations enclosure. Everything should arrive by Thursday in time for my Friday install appt.

Along with the JL 10w6v2, I got an Alpine PDX-M6 (600W) amp, JBL MS-8 processor, 36 sq. ft. of Ballistic sound deadening material for the trunk, and a bass control knob for the amp.

I can't wait to hear the difference! I'll let you know how it sounds and post a couple pics when I'm done.

I bought one of the first run of Audio Integrations Sub boxes... I love it. In my opinion, if you want to maximize trunk space, it's the only box to get! It has enough volume to run a nice midrange 10 inch sub. I run an Alpine Type R sub in it, and the volume required for that sub isnt tiny, but isnt large. The box meets the specs of the Type R quite nicely for volume, no foam needed.

I run a simple setup with an Alpine MRP-500 mono amp. I mostly listen to my ipod and XM, not an audiophile. It seems my ipod likes to suck the bass out of the MP3's but when a good song hits the XM radio, or if I put in a CD, it hits pretty hard for a single 10!

For the quality of construction, price and practicality, I dont think you can beat this box!
