"Driving around Drone" MRT V1 vs V2
I know, I know, another V1 vs V2 thread. But at least they're fun, right?!
At some point I am going to choose between the MRT V1 and V2 because I can't justify spending $1000 on a catback that gives no improvement in power when I can get a similar sound for half the price. Anyways, I have a 2LT M6. I've read that the V1 has more drone than the V2, but I'm wondering with a manual if that's going to be a problem. I drove mostly in town, so it's not like I'm cruising on the highway at 2200-2400 rpm for long stretches very often. I do a lot of driving in 5th gear at about 42-44 mph once I get up to speed, which is somewhere around 1700-1800 rpm I believe. Thoughts? I know that the V2 is supposed to be more "refined" with less drone and not as loud until you really get on it. But I'm wondering if the main issue is the drone with the V1 and if so if it can be "driven around" with a manual in town. I have an Injen long tube CAI, FWIW. |

MMM, since I have the V1 I can say you will have drone. Can you shift out of it yes, is it terrible well only going up a hill. I should do some video for you. I must say the V1 is AWESOME!!! I have an auto and use manual mode to shift out of some of the drone. When you get your exhaust drive under an overpass and let er rip... ITS SO AWESOME.

I have the V1, and I have to agree that it's a great sounding exhaust...if you're not doing a lot of driving in the 2000 rpm range. Around town it's awesome, but for someone who does a lot of highway driving, it's brutal. The drone transforms your cabin into a hollow drum. And while it's true that you can shift out of that dreaded rpm range, I don't think that anyone should have to change the way they drive their car just to be able to tolerate a mod. This is just my opinion of course, and I still say that the V1 is a kick ass exhaust, it's just not ideal for me.

Being a manual will probably help some. They seem a little better with drone on most cars.
