I don't know what to do...

I just bought a brand new 2013 1LT on Saturday. I went in already pre-approved from a credit union for $24,000. I had $3000 cash and they gave me $2000 for my car. They ended up financing me for $24,650 and I paid 29,650 out the door. Today, Monday, the lady from finance calls me and says that they could not match the rate I signed for and that I would need to bring in a check from my credit union. I told her that I was only approved for 24k with the credit union and she said I would need the rest in cash($650). I then explained that when making the deal, I layed all my cards out on the table to the sales man. Now she is saying that if I can't come up with the money, I have to give the car back. I thought we had a deal and now they are going back on it? I told her she is going to have to take the car back, and she told me she is going to talk to a manager. This is my first time buying a car...do these kind of things happen???

My opinon (not a lawyer): You should have a copy of the signed contract that includes all the information, at least you would in NY. Check all the paperwork, it should be legally binding. Tell them you will take it to your lawyer and they can talk to him / her.

Come to think of it, you probably should just go talk to a real lawyer instead of asking on here.

Let them have it back. You can get a much better deal.

Like the post above, I am not a lawyer but i cannot see them taking the car back. I would think you could line up a deal like you made for another car, you would get another brand new car, they would get a USED car back.

If it were me, i would call their bluff.

+1 Tell them to kiss your grits and get your money back. That's kinda shady.

I would look into seeing if the credit union could finance the remaining balance onto the loan, and if not, then the dealership will have to take the car back (use this as leverage) and then tell them you want your deposit and your trade-in back. They might give you some wiggle room since they are at the end of the month and trying to reach quotas. If this doesn't happen, don't get down, this will provide you another opportunity to find another car for a lower price. Good luck.
