Exclamation No Dampner on Timing Chain (LS3) Cam swap?

My performance shop who is doing the CAM SWAP said the tensioner is not needed and also noticed it was not included with the Cam package I bought from TSP. It came with a Rollmaster High Performance Timing Chain/Gaskets but no Dampner or Tensioner so I dont need it correct?

I would get your car out of that shop fast!

You MUST have either a dampner or tensioner. I would go with the LS2 style dampner, that is what I did.

I suspect the shop may not have done these swaps......make sure it is done by a known shop that has a track record with the motor you have. LS3 or L99? Also, do they know to properly measure for the correct pushrod length and preload? (guessing is dangerous and you can only guess the PR length ahead of time...it is the last thing you measure for and it cant be determined ahead of time...are they degreeing the cam to ensure it was ground correct?

If you need to ask more details just PM me.

Even with a quality chain you should still run a damper. The late model tensioner are prone to break so replace that with the LS2 style damper and be done.

yeah what he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ TSP sells the LS2 style dampener for like 10 bucks. Your car can run without one but it won't be long until you are screwed.

Just got off the phone with them and they stated since it was a double roller the dampner isn't needed like it would be with a standard timing chain. It is more for peace of mind and that the car would have no issues.

Thoughts on this? Cam Swap is essentially done, all they have left is the tune today and tomorrow.....Why I am asking, because if adding a dampner is simple then I will just get it put on afterwords with no issues.

I dont care if it had 3 chains lol ...for 10 bucks u can't go wrog. its not hard just involves draining the coolin system and a.harmonic balancer puller and installer a few dollars in gaskets and ur good... To me that's way cheaper then a new motor i have a double roller and I still used.the ls2 dampener

Wow, I would be really worried about a shop that did'nt insist on installing a LS2 dampner. A upgraded timing chain isnt nearly as important as a new dampner.

Yep. From what i've seen... If you know what you're doing, this is a no brainer. IDEALG just had a thread recently that shows the flimsy pos that should be replaced. It's all apart anyways... There's no way to justify not replacing something that cheap and easy when it could be a problem.

The tensioners on these motors is needed because the stock chains stretch alot,so in theory the tensioner takes up slop but in fact, they just break. The LS2 dampner is a good idea on single rollers like we use the dampner with C5R chains even though the chain doesn't need it.
This is almost verbatim from what the shop told me. Thanks man, my heart was in my throat. *fingers crossed*
