Based on all the buyers remorse posts from folks looking to trade their turbo/V6 in on an SS OR A8 on a M6 OR M6 on an A8 OR whatever I'm surprised Camaro sales aren't at least triple the Mustang's.

I did my part for December.

Surprised to see 7000 for the month actually...higher than I thought it would be as that's up like 2000 from last month if I recall.

Was it really exactly 7000?

Just numbers. Either you love your car or you don't.

At least the segment didn't tank worse than last month

....Good to see a nice rise in the sales numbers....Probably better for a December than most thought would happen....Will be interesting to see if it makes a dent in the inventory numbers, and gets the assembly plants cranking out more cars again...We'll see....

The rise in Camaro sales off set the drop in Mustang sales with sales growth for the Challenger which is good for the segment. However I wonder where that sales growth came from as isn't this time of the year normally down for the segment?... I wonder if there was some fleet dumping going on to deal with building up volume.

Fleet sales were part of this..but only GM knows exactly how much of that 2,000 jump was from fleets.

Per the GM sales presser..

Quote:
December daily rental sales were up, but finished 2016 down nearly 74,000 vehicles or 18 percent compared to 2015.
So..basically rental/fleet sales were up for December but overall 2016 was down from 2015.

Going by the inventory count Camaro was carrying into December '16, a fleet dump was inevitable. Which is good, they needed to clear that out to make more room for the new inventory rolling out of the plants. Some people look down on rental sales because it can drag down residual value, but anyone buying a car for its resale value is making a horrible investment.
