Personally, I don't see how someone wanting to exercise a Constitutional Right (in spite of their state doing its best to discourage it) makes them a redneck......but that's just me.

Why is every law abiding gun owner considered a "redneck"?

The OP stated he needed a locking storage box to use when carrying his firearm to the range. This is California law, and these are the lengths that we have to go through to own firearms in California. This does not make the OP a zombie slayer or a redneck or any kind of an extremist. He is trying to do right by the law.

It's either this, or give up. And I can guarantee, CA gun owners are not going to give up their guns just because of a bunch of stupid laws that are designed to discourage people from owning guns.

MA has tough gun laws but at least they consider the trunk to be a locked container. My suggestion would be to buy a hard rifle case that you can lock- is this sufficient for CA?

Yes, this would be sufficient. The box doesn't have to be bolted down, it just has to lock.

There is a nice box with a cable but I don't recall the name. something like this http://www.cabelas.com/p-0045006228564a.shtml . Problem is people seeing you put it in there. Who knows what to do with a rifle. Crazy laws man.

Thanks for the positive advice and if being a gun

owner makes me a redneck, then I must be.The only reason i wanted to bolt it down was for additional secuity.
As for those brie eating, tree hugging, hippies calling me a redneck, sorry you got neutered.

Agree. There should be a trigger button on the steering wheel. I can't think of a single day where I haven't needed a gun.

Are there any other options? For instance, out here in Iowa, getting a concealed carry license (easy) means you can carry your gun in the car without worrying about a box or a trigger lock.

I'd just as soon leave a box in the trunk all the time as I go to the range quite abit and it gives some added protection to your gear in the event someone pops your trunk.
I usually put a lock on my range bag and carry the pistols, in cases, inside. My long gun box doens fin in my Camaro :(
