^You can't. I was just saying in general. i wouldn't mind seeing 91 dyno'd, but i was just saying the lowest grade possible vs highest grade. when i say highest grade, i mean not race gas and the most common you can buy. lol

Its more to do with me thinking prove it to me first, And no one has, On my boat was told the same thing run only 91 on the 502 EFI i did not, i ran only 87 and never lost a race, So if you want to tell me to run 91, I need to see it that's how i run. |

Wow you get it, So with 87 the gas burns faster that's why it will pull some timing as it need to ignite closer to TDC of the stroke.

The SS has been measured and proven to lose power when burning 87 instead of 91 or 93. It's a fact. If you can't feel a difference, that's due to your butt dyno not being sensitive enough.

Here it is straight from the owner's manual:
----------------------------------------- Recommended Fuel If the vehicle has the 3.6L V6 engine (VIN Code V), use regular unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 87 or higher. If the octane rating is less than 87, you might notice an audible knocking noise when you drive, commonly referred to as spark knock. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible. If you are using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher and you hear heavy knocking, the engine needs service. If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine (VIN Code W) or the 6.2L V8 engine (VIN Code J), use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. For best performance, use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 93. You can also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but the vehicle’s acceleration could be slightly reduced, and you might notice a slight audible knocking noise, commonly referred to as a spark knock. If the octane is less than 87, you might notice a heavy knocking noise when you drive. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible. Otherwise, you could damage the engine. If you are using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher and you hear heavy knocking, the engine needs service. |

My SS/RS with a tune only gets 93

I only use 93 as well. The whole "could damage you engine" and "loss of performance" make me very particular about that.
I do understand that it says below 87. Last edited by sninja13; 07-02-2010 at 11:14 AM. |

Search "fuse pull" and take your pick of the dozens of different threads about significant power loss from 87 octane.
Heck, you said yourself that you know it causes the engine to pull its timing - that's something that will ALWAYS cost you power as a direct & unavoidable effect.
