E-Brake problem

Hey everyone,
Last night I had the scare of my life. I left my camaro in my driveway like usual but I left it out of gear with the e-brake up. About 15 minutes later I'm in my bed and I hear a ''BOOM'' my heart stopped and I get up and look out the window. My camaro is in the middle of the street and immediately I thought it had hit my camry that was parked across the street. So I rush out to check and there is no marks on either car and they are not touching either so I figured there was no contact (thankfully). I figure the boom noise I heard was the e-brake failing. It's very freaky because one week ago my brother's G37s did the same thing in my driveway but he had it in gear so the gear caught the car, but same symptoms a boom and the e-brake lets go! Now I'm pretty sure this is my fault because when I went back in the car the handbrake lever was able to go higher so maybe I didn't pull it hard enough. The only thing I am worried about is that when I installed my aftermarket rims, like many of you, the tpms sensors we're hitting the E-brake lines so I had to move them and zip tie them out of the way, I am wondering if this could cause a failure or it's just me not pulling it hard enough? either way my car is staying in gear from now on.

Have you tested it since to see if the ebrake is working? I know on my car, I have to really crank it back all the way for it to be fully engaged. If I just pull up on the handle, sometimes it doesn't fully engage.

yea try to see if the ebrake is working. Inorder for mine to grab i have to throw it up all the way. So you may want to take it to a dealer or do a couple test to see if its working the right way

waaaay back in my first few days of owning here (there is a thread or two on it) my car rolled down a hill in gear with parking brake engaged- was slightly loose and was readjusted when I took it in.

I have tested it since and it does work, I dont want to take it to the dealer because once they see the brake lines with zip ties on there Im sure there not going to work on my car with the warranty, thats just how my dealer is. But I just find it weird that I heard a boom first as if the e-brake just failed.

I bet that was scary. It is normal for the ebrake handle to have to be pulled up higher than when the car was new. The cables have stretched overtime and require the handle to go up 1 - 2 more clicks to have the same holding effect it once had when it was new. I noticed this on mine which is why when I park on a slope, I set the parking brake first and make sure it is holding the car, then I put it in gear before I leave it. I recently replaced the parking brake on my VW and same thing, at first, only needed to go up 3-4 clicks to hold the car, and now, after 2 weeks, it has to go up 4-5 clicks.
