What I'm interested in learning is if this is an issue with installation at the factory, or if this is an out of alignment issue with the AC compressor pulley compared to the crank pulley.

The AC compressor is hard mounted with no adjustment, so assuming that the belt was properly installed onto the pulleys there should be no reasonable explanation for this seemingly high amount of failure unless the explanation is a pulley alignment issue.

If not pulley alignment, then I fall back to installation error that QA/QC is dropping the ball on.

Had mine been a lone wolf failure it would not look so bad. But as I am seeing, this is a fairly common failure.

Glad I stumbled across this. I just checked mine and discovered the belt off by a pretty good margin.

I'm not usually one to jump on the band wagon but I totally agre. The manner in which mine broke caused me all kinds of stress to. Then to see the amount of people having the same problem. Doesn't help that this is an expensive little belt to.

Took mine in today and they cut the belt off. New one was not in stock and will be replaced tomorrow. Service dept was not aware of any previous camaros with the same problem. 87 in Chicago today, but who needs air conditioning. Sunroof open and windows down is the way to do it

Mine has almost 7K miles on it and haven't had an issue yet, but now that I'm installing a supercharger, I will probably jinx myself for the fact the belt had to come off for new damper. These belts are a pita to install too.

I guess it's possible to get the belt back on, but I'm doubtful that you can without the special tool that is used to roll it on the pully.

There is nothing you can loosen. The crank is an internal part of the engine with the snout extending out, this is what the pulley is mounted to. There will be no moving of the crankshaft!

The driven ac compressor is also bolted directly to a bracket with no way to adjust.

There is no method of removal or replacement by way of loosening any of the parts, only the belt provides any give during the installation.

It would be quite difficult for the average home mechanic to perform this task.

The good thing is that your dealer will do it under your factory warranty for free and they have the correct tool to roll the belt on with.

My AC belt either snapped or blew off, but it's gone... Is that serious? I have to drive my car a bunch this week, and don't mind not having AC. Can I manage?

It's an air conditioning compressor belt, you may sweat this week..... But I think you will survive the experience.
