Question for those with the GM CAI...

Hey guys,

The GM CAI is not CARB state legal (the new V8 version is, but I'm not referring to that one) and comes with/requires a tune to be done at the dealer after installation.

Is there anyone out there who *lives in/has their car registered in* a CARB state but went out of state to *dealer in a non-CARB state* to have the tune done??

Wondering if anyone can share they're experience if this was your circumstance.
Did you have any problems with successfully getting the tune done?
Did they try and GM denied you the tune because they could tell that you are from a CARB state or was everything fine since the dealer's location is what matters??

Thanks so much!

I don’t think the “tune” is a true upgrade, I was running a consistent 12.6 in the 1/4 before the tune, went to have my oil changed and the “tune” done and couldn’t get past 12.8 called the dealership and asked if they could undo it and was told it shouldn’t have made a difference as it’s just a warranty update. Don’t waste your time with the tune.

I remember reading on a post at somepoint, that someone did try to go to a dealer in another state for the reflash. But since the VIN was registered in a non carb state the dealership couldn't do the reflash.

Crap. That is the opposite of what I wanted to hear!
Lol... thank you though!

Do you think you saw it on here?
Did some searching before I posted but didn't find anything that quite spoke to my situation. Want to be sure before I spend an nonrefundable/nonreturnable $400...

The latest version of the GM CAI is 50 State Legal. Yes it also has a CARB Certificate for the Communist state of California. I had my GM CAI installed by the dealership (they also did the TUNE) here where I live in the Imperial Valley in Southern California. Since having the GM CAI intake installed I have been very Happy with the results.

I was going to get the GM CAI but I keep hearing that people are not noticing a difference. The only CAI that I hear people raving about is Mishimoto.

Unfortunately (mentioned it quickly in my 1st post) only the new V8 version is 50 state legal - I have the V6.
When I asked, I was told that there is currently no plan for/news about a 50 state legal V6 version.

Haven't heard that personally, but I believe Mishimoto is another company that doesn't offer a V6 CAI. So because of that I probably hadn't been paying attention to the chatter there...
