Question Heater ON = cool engine temps during HPDE ?

So plain and simple question. To HELP with keeping an LS3 cool, does turning the fan and heater ON during laps around a track help?

I was a passenger in a 350z twin turbo and he blasted the heater the whole time and even with the windows down it was dreadfully hot, but he claims it helps keep his temps down.

Any thoughts or experiences? I still haven't asked my tuner but thought I would post up to everyone here.....

No personal experiences in doing this, but I have heard it claimed to work many times. Although Clinton claimed to not have sexual relations with that woman as well.

It works well but on a hot day its not an really an option you want to use and thats when you really need it.. Looks into getting heat extractor vents for your hood.

The faster way to cool down your engine in between your track session is to let it run with the AC full on and the hood open. It takes less then 10 minutes to get back to 190f.

Never thought of the AC. Does it work because it kicks on the fans on high? Running the heat in AZ is not pleasant since its normally on the warm side but i guess it would matter much with the windows down at speed.

It should help keep the coolant temperature down a little. The heater core is basically a small radiator and air flows through it when the HVAC fan is on.

You can also jump the cooling fan relay and have them both run continually, along with removing the engine cover. That's what I do on track days.

Yes, I do remove the engine cover. Never heard of having the option of having the fans run all the time though.

Good to know!

Merc, what do you set your passenger compartment heater and fan speed setting to?

That should pull some heat up the engine. I've done it with cars in the past that were overheating. Once in a hundred plus degree weather sitting in traffic which sucked

Don't turn them on, just run the 2 engine cooling fans during the run and cool down sessions down the pits.

So you don't run your interior heater on the track at all?

I love the tips and tricks but my chief question still is if I should be running the heater during hot laps....

No I don't actually by jumping the fan relay as shown it disables the heater and AC fan too. On occasion when I do that it sometimes throws a code that I have to clear after running for the day.

Road race ignoramus here, would it be better to cool the coolant more, or the oil?
