another pour sap trade up story: advice needed
im trying to trade up to an 1ss. i found a 1ss auto 2011 with 9k miles for 30k. also looking at a 2012 1ss auto new with some options for 34k. not sure if the 2011 is a good deal or not? also, i havent test drove a ss yet so im unsure of the whole auto manual choice? does the auto feel fast?
thanks for all comments. |

Well the 2012 is the better deal for sure... but i would recommend getting the car in manual, i have M6 and i absolutely love it...and yes it is my dialy driver... not going to lie every once and a while i get sick of driving stick like in traffic but the times i love it overpowers everything by far... if it isnt your daily driver then 100% get stick! just my two sense

When people ask me "is it stick?" I always say.."that's the only way I knew it came." SHOP the DEAL. You shouldn't pay anything over 30K out the door for any 2011 SS that has miles on it.

Autos feel fast until you hit the gas.

Ahhh...the never ending auto vs. manual debate/argument (and there are plenty of threads about that on this site) . My input is get what will make you happy. I'm not going to start an argument over whether an auto is faster or slower than a manual....or driving a stick in traffic is a nightmare...or whether if you drive an auto then you need to take Midol....all of these things are personal choices. For me, I just think a manual is fun and I enjoy "rowing" through the gears while driving. I also don't mind a manual in traffic. My commute is pretty good now, but I used to sit in stop and go traffic for about 30 minutes a day while driving a 5 speed Jeep Wrangler and I didn't mind it one bit. Others would hate it and I understand that (my wife was one of them when she drove the Jeep in traffic). The bottom line is you're probably not going to make a living by driving this car to win races so it doesn't really matter if you shave .3 seconds off of your 1/4 mile time. The important thing is to get what you want and then enjoy the heck out of it. That's just my two cents worth. Now let the transmission bashing start again.
BTW...the 2012 sounds like the better deal to me. |

Get what you want. As for fast. Well... there are a million time slips that proves the M6 & A6 Are essentially equal. Unless you plan to drive road course or auto x either is fine. Straight line it really is a toss up.

Let me further muddy the waters.
I prefer automatic for many reasons but I have enjoyed using the paddle shifters. I know it's not a stick shift but hey. |

Does the 2011 still have the extra rebates and incentives? I know when I got my 2011 2SS RS a couple months ago, it stickered at 40,000 was a dealer demo w/ 6500 miles and I was able to trade in my 2010 LT1 for it and keep the same payment because there were extra incentives (plus I had an extended warranty on my LT and did to get it on my 2SS).
So, if they are willing to give you a good deal, then the 2011 may be appealing. |

Compare the used prices you are looking at to a new 1SS. Seems awfully close to me. For the $2-3k you are "saving" I would just get the unmolested '13 with MyLink and NPP(if you like that sort of thing). The difference really isn't that much and you can have it exactly how you want it vs what was available.
