Probably has to do with fuel economy ratings across the platform. Either that or the auto can't handle the extra torgue.

Because they decided to pair the automatic with the L99 engine instead to gain maximum fuel economy benefits. They're essentially the same engine, but the L99 has Active Fuel management.

If you're asking why it there couldn't be an LS3/auto combo in addition to what we have...I'd say that has to do with assembly costs. The less combinations: the better. And there really wouldn't be a huge benefit performance-wise anyways.

Will The AFM prevent the installation of headers or hi-flow air box?

I really don't believe the L99 will be any slower than the LS3....

I wonder if the hp and tq curves are identical (minus the 5% drivetrain efficiency of the manual compared to the automatic) up to the 400hp of the l99.

Was just reading a magazine test of the LS3 in the gXP G8 and it reported 4.5 seconds to 60mph for both automatic and manual trannys ...

Quarter mile times were 13.0 @ 109mph.

The G8 GXP is probably 300 to 400 lbs heavier than the camaro show we should see some dam impressive times for the new v8 camaro...

zero to 60 times of 4.2/4.3 are possible...

Thats dam fast if you ask me................

I wouldn't hestitate to order up the L99 with the six speed paddle shift automatic.

Probably better designed to suit the automatic tranny than the ls3 anyway.

GM wanted to feature the advanced AFM technology of all upcoming V8 motors. The L99 is a modified LS3 that was designed for that task. Remember that GM is seeking a greener image. Posting this sort of technology shows that GM is doing everything in its power to look green.

Performance is very impressive with the automatic. Aggressive tuning and gearing has made for a near-equal match between the LS3 manual and the L99 automatic. Additional tuning could give the automatic a strong advantage with the right modifications.
