v6 to ss shock and strut switch
So yesterday I bought a set of shocks and strut take offs from a SS to use with my new sport springs. I started to think today it might not be as easy as I have read. I'm wondering if there are any other parts i might need to do the switch. Does anyone have an idea?

I bought struts from SLP too on eBay. Haven't got them installed yet but pretty sure it's just a direct swap with the V6 ones

Your ride height will be raised due to the different springs on the struts as the V8 is heavier than the V6 (not alot)

Ok, maybe i didn't say it right. I got SS take offs and im using them with 1" hotchkis springs. Im missing how my ride height will be higher...

It wont be. Had same springs on my LT and ride height after was same as a SS would have been. The drop on the v6 will be more as it sits higher, but overall height is same or close to what ss would be.

You will be fine with either SS springs or Hotchkis.
With SS springs and SLP struts my ride heighth came down down 5/8" in the rear and 1/8" in front- IOW, nice and level just like the SS, not th Tail-in-the-air look of the V6. But its not a small DIY job. You'll have to remove the V6 struts/springs and disassemble them- you're gonna need the spring mounts off the top of your stock shocks. Then seat the hotchkis springs on the SLP take-offs and install the top mounts. Then replace'em in the car- take care to put the shock/strut mounts back where they came from, there's some play allowed but it will effect the amount of weight each wheel will bear and could adversely effect traction. You shouldn't need any other parts, but a good variety of wrenches/rachets, a breaker bar, and a good torque wrench are essential. And follow it all with a good 4 wheel alignment! Have fun! |

Oh yeah- I got away with a very inexpensive one from Harbor Freight, but a rental from your local auto parts place would be better.
You will need a spring compressor (and alot of patience!), but it can be done with hand tools in your garage. |
