K&N Replacement Filter
I lack the necessary funds, and I probably won't attain them for a while. I do, however, have enough spare cash to purchase a K&N replacement filter. Should I even bother with this? I wasn't planning on putting anything mods on it for at least another thousand miles or so.

Just be careful to sop up the extra oil that comes on it (they come over-oiled) and not to put too much on when you clean and reoil it. Too much oil could mess up the MAF sensor. Personally I think you'd be better off with a paper filter and just doing something about the resonators.

I've had the K&N Air Filter and their Oil Filters on since July - I perceived a bit more performance over the stock at first. I'm glad I changed to K&N though there is much debate whether they add much at all over stock,
I agree with Xanthos - make sure you take off the excess oil with a lint-free rag, mine was OK but other's have complained the filter is over-oiled coming right out of the plastic bag.

Filter alone doesn't do SQUAT. Several posts already about this and someone even dyno'd with absolutely NO difference. One thing you do get is a risk that you put too much oil on it and gum up the MAP sensor.
Absolutely do not bother wasting your money. It's simply an overly expensive air filter with a brand name. Any sense of improvement in sound or performance is subjective only. Seriously...don't waste your money. Save some more and buy a CAI some day. BTW I'm not criticizing if you already bought one as I fell for this on my last car. Lesson learned.

I speak from personal experience as well. I had one in my old Tahoe, and there was indeed an increase in performance, though mainly in fuel economy. I was surprised when someone noted that the sound was increased, which is why I was asking in order to clarify.

Ok I just got mine today and installed it. Haven't had a chance to get up on the gas yet, but gas mileage has definitely increased by about 2 mpg.

They do have that millon mile warranty, for those who might just want to keep it stock and not waste the money on air filters all the time

I agree, not going to happen. You'd be surprised what magnets can do for arthritis pain!!!
If you are concentrating on the MPG, it is THAT alone that is giving you better MPG ...not the filter. Seriously, when I bought my K&N I really wanted it to be worth the money! I didn't want to be wrong and so I defended it tooth and nail. Extra HP extra MPG...but not really. I fought the criticism...but in the end, they were right...it's just an expensive, brand name air filter that wasn't worth they hype. I got taken, I was a fool. Don't bother.
