I had the same problem when I first got my long tube headers. It was WAY TOO LOUD, I was afraid to hit the pedal.
A resonated X pipe was the solution for me. I don't know if that'll help in your case but just thought I'd make the suggestion.

I was thinking about that, it gets alot of rasp around 4k rpms.

I was able to pick up a used one from a forum member in the for sale section. saved me a few bucks.

carls2010 has one for sale right now. It's from an SS but it'll probably weld in just fine. I haven't checked his listing, I just saw him mention it in another thread.

ok so the cherry bomb v8 exhaust will fit the v6. Will all v8 exhausts fit the v6?

I'm not sure, It depends in the size of the pipes. Maybe some one with more experience can chime in.
