running a cam w/o cats?

when getting a cam, will the exhaust smell get worse or stay the same? exhaust smell not to bad, but i do stink up the garage a little. wife does not like that. will the cam make it worse? might have to add some cats if it does.

On my car before the cam the smell wasn't that bad, but after she well make your eyes water at idle. I dont know about while driving the snow is just starting to go away.

i don't have a cam yet but i do have high flow cats and long tube headers and the exhaust smell is pretty bad as it is.

It's going to depend on the tune. It shouldn't be too much on an issue if the car is tuned properly.

your getting more exhaust valve lift and its open for a longer duration
in the heads so more exhaust gas is coming out per engine rotation. same with the intake valve. kinda in lamins terms but thats prob. the reason for the stronger exhaust odor.

this is a great read http://www.popularhotrodding.com/eng...ecs/index.html

the more duration and overlap the worse the smell, when intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time some of the intake charge gets blown out the exhaust. with a good tune you will still get some fuel smell.

Wait, wait wait. I never heard about this, and planned getting a S/C Cam for my whipple.

If I'm driving normally, am I going to constantly be smelling exhaust? I never heard of a cam making it worse.
