Engine break in
For all you Z/28 owners, looking to join your club... Just curious what is the recommended break in on the engine? Thanks for your time.

The owners manual recommends taking it easy for the first 1500 miles ie 4000 max rpm, 80mph max, no hard acceleration and no lugging the engine.
There are some other threads on the topic and some members follow the guidance and others suggest you should drive it like you stole it from day 1. I followed the owners manual until just over 1000 miles and then started opening her up more fully. Andy |

You could also check Corvette forums for LS7 recommendations.

I tryed to follow the manual for the most part, didnt lug it around, tryed to stay under 4000rpm except for a few times, and tryed to stay under 80 except for a few times, put 1100 miles on it changed oil to m1 15w50 drove another 300 miles, then to VIR. Just had it dynoed at 449/425 which is around 15-20 more hp than stock c6z06's on the same dyno. Now at 1900 miles.

For everyone who offered up the search function, I am so gratefully thankful, even more so for 1KillerSS who according to his signature does not own a Z/28 and therefore should not be commenting on Z/28 issues, no matter how many mods he has. I asked a Z/28 specific question as I may be picking one up in the next few days and wanted true input from real owners. Let me clarify my situation, I am probably getting a 14 Z/28 0n 12/18 and I have to drive up to San Francisco from San Diego, and I am asking about break in on the engine as that is some pretty steady driving at the same RPM if I just cruise up. Again thanks to anyone who wants to offer constructive advice on my situation, Thanks.

Wow that's a first, I was not aware that I needed to "own" a Z28 in order to post. Thank you for putting me in my place, and forgive me for posting in this section. I can only imagine the horror it was for you to see my post, and then for you to realize that I was not a z owner must have just been terrifying to you.

Wasn't terrifying at all, but if your read my first post I asked for input from individuals who own a Z/28 as I am looking to buy one, I did not ask for input from those who own an SS, if I wanted SS info I would have posed my question in SS section, not the Z/28 section. I own an SS so I am pretty much covered there. Truly not trying to be a dick, but I am looking for information from those that actually own one. I have a road trip coming up on Friday and if I get it tomorrow I am on the fence about taking up on the drive with RPM's remaining constant, hence why I was asking for input from guys who have one. Enjoy your SS, I have had a great time with mine. I thought by putting this in the Z/28 section I would get some good feedback, which I did, but it was inevitable that I got the few who threw the search button out icon out there. I get it, but this kind of response is also what has made this forum such a drag.

You weren't trying but.....Do some freeking reading man. New posts come up in the "New Posts" tab. Thats a common place for people to click when they want to check out whats new on the forum. That is how I came across this waste of time thread. I clearly dont have a beloved Z28 and in your eyes am nothing more than scum. Do yourself a favor, spend five frikkin seconds on the internet and do some research on your own. Dont start a thread asking stupid questions and not expect people to give stupid answers back. Frankly its people like you that bring this forum down.
I will try to enjoy my SS, but knowing how cool you are is really putting a damper on that right now.

Sounds good, thank you so much for your breadth of knowledge of what kind of question to post and not post, I was completely unaware that there was protocol that I was to adhere to when asking a question, or that there was a mandatory search function that was to be utilized prior to asking a question. In the future I will be sure and heed your advice and always use the search function first as I really do not want to take up the valuable time of anyone who may click a link in the "new posts" section. Forgive me for being such a burden on this forum....

If your doing highway driving, then just vary your speed and rpm. I drove mine from TX to NJ, during the break in period. You'll be fine.
