A few of my toys. What do you guys recommend as far as EOtech Red Dot's go? I have the Vortex Crossfire, but I'm think about upgrading to an EOtech. I am not a heavy shooter just weekend fun, so I don't want to spend $1,000 on one.

I absolutely beat the crap out of my eotech and it works great. Can't go wrong with one. I would get a AA battery model, just for ease of changing them out etc. (Mine uses those small camera/medical batteries)

Helped out a friend at a gun show over the weekend... My payment:
about 20# of powder for 223/556
about 4000 SS109 62gr bullets
about 1# of IMR4895 (some jackoff at the show took the lid off and spilled it)
2000 small pistol primers
about 1800 once fired 223 brass
40 rounds of .40 Hornady Zmax ammo
7 empty ammo cans
gunsmith screwdriver set
empty powder kegs that I will use for trashcans
some once fired .45acp brass
and I bought 5000 small rifle primers from him at his cost - $115

Get one of the new XPS/EXPS models. They use a commonly found CR123 battery mounted transversely which cures the battery issues earlier models had. They are also much shorter and you get a choice of reticles too.

Shooting the M107 and BA-50 at 600 yard range.

The mannequins were hollow, so it appears missing the targets, but watch the video completely

Just a little personal opinions and anecdotes would be appreciated. I currently have a Sig sp2022 in .40. But I am thinking about switching to a sig 229 in 9mm and eventually getting a usp in .45.

From what I gather 9mm is going to pop. 40 snaps and 45 pushes. What do people think about that statement?

The EOtechs are solid but I find them a little bulky. They throw the balance off. I recently started running an Aimpoint Micro and couldn't be happier. Much smaller and weighs almost nothing.

That is a fair description. I prefer 9mm because the low recoil allows for quicker reengagment (follow up shots) as well as high capacity at a lower weight.

So do you think if you have the means, go for each separately (9mm and 45)? Is the. 40 inherently good at anything besides being a compromise round?

All three have their strengths, but I don't see the .40 as a compromise at all. I think of it more as the best of both worlds.

You're going to get a lot of different opinions on which round you should use, but it really depends on what they're for. I have a .40 H&K that I keep in my vehicle. Our summers are really hot down here, so I carry my Ruger LCP in my pocket then.

I'm looking at an FN FNX-45 (.45 cal) tactical for home defense and the range. I'm also checking out the Kahr PM9 (9mm) to have something a little smaller to carry than the H&K.

What will the weapon be used for?

Not a compromise, just another flavor. The .40 actually is a hotter round (more "knock down power) than a 45. Like Dangeruss said, it all depends on your use and your preferences.

And just to confuse the situation even more...don't forget about .357 SIG. That's a nice round as well.
