How much would it cost to get the halos and headlights installed in a SS2
Would it be more cost efficient to get the RS package with it instead?

You really think it will cost the same? I would think it'd be a lot less considering aftermarket HID kits run less than $300 for the G8. I struggled with this when ordering and chose not to get the RS package. There will be aftermarket options and the GM catalog to select from in the future. So other than the lights all I'd benifit from in the RS package is a few red SS badges which I would replace with silver SS badges (I don't like the red accent) and color matched roof seal (but my car is already black).

Aftermarket halo lamps will be far cheaper than the $1,200 factory RS package for the SS. The factory RS package includes: HID lamps, new tail lights, rear spoiler (for LT models), 20" 5-spoke rims and some type of roofline trim upgrade.
I like the upgraded head lamps, tail lamps and rims, so the $1,200 factory option is a more appealing route for me personally. If all you care about is HID head lamps, then aftermarket is a tempting route. |

Last I heard a good set of HID's would probably cost $750. Then you have to find an aftermarket "halo" kit, then you have to install it and get it working properly. I'd rather spend the 1200, get the extra items and have it all get replaced by warranty if there's any issues with the lighting.

those supposed HID kits are a joke and they aren't safe. They glare and blind other drivers. If you want to do it yourself your going to have to build them. Which means you have to find projectors, shrouds, and the lights and bulbs. Just get it from the factory you'll be much happier. Guys building them correctly for the Cobalts have been spending more than 500. And that is doing all the work themselves. Most have been closer to 7 or 800.

Most aftermarket HID/halo kits are only for low beams. The kits that do have both low and high beams in one unit like the Camaro run about $500-$600 per side.

Halos/HID's kinda pricey .... you don't want nothing with cheap quality though Here is the most recent pic of my Halo's I got from AAC:

If you don't care about having high v. Lo beams...I guess someone somewhere will make an aftermarket kit.
But the Camaro's HIDs are dual-beam...anybody have price estimates for a quality set of dual-beam HIDs? Last I checked they're going to run somewhere around 500 bucks a piece. Ouch. Here's a conversation we had a while back about this... http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?p=259213 |
