I have never had a TC... is the TC keeping you at a higher RPMs and making the car sound as if it is near WOT or something?

I am deciding if I actually want one, but I may just wait for the cam swap.

A higher stall torque converter will multiply the torque of your engine to put more power and torque to the tires! The high stall torque converter will "slip" the engine into a higher rpm range where there is more torque and horsepower. This will make your car haul ass!

Yea, I got that portion of it... I guess I never thought the basics of higher RPM, higher dB volume..

The only thing keeping me from doing this is the MPG hit.

In my case, I've having to ramp up to about 2.5k to get moving. Couple that with my bolts and cam and the cops come running. It was loud enough at near WOT without the stall, now it's crazy loud.

Yea, I have the basic bolt ons w/out the cam yet.. so it would be pretty loud as well even before the cam.

I guess I really just need to take a ride in one with a stall just to see...

I have a Borla Touring catback exhaust with my cammed car with LTs. I also put on electric cutouts (I have no cats) so I can have the "stupid loud" if I want it. Here is a video. We open the cutouts about 30 seconds in. The cam and headers add plenty of sound, so I went with Borla's quietest exhaust which sound perfect to me. Not too loud, but nice and growly.

I had the borla s type after the cam headers, it was annoying at highway speeds. I went with the 3" kooks and it sounds great.

The thing I discovered is that a cam made the car a lot louder than it was even with LT headers.

Hmm, don't know if I want to go that much louder or not after headers lol... it got great volume now. I imagine with a stall and cam it could get pretty irritating for neighbors.

How much volume increase did you see? I knew the lope was distinct and I love the Borla tone, but TOO much louder... hmmm

I have kooks with the 2.5 right now, didn't realize the 3 inch might actually help drum some of the volume.

It's really surprising how much louder it got with the cam. When I had straight pipes and the cam on, I was idling at a stoplight and a police car came up beside me. He rolled his window down, rolled it back up and then the light turned green. When we both turned the corner he got behind me and lit me up. He stated that at idle my car was crazy loud and needed to be fixed. That was at IDLE.

Well I run Borla S type, so maybe I can survive here ... I can see how straight pipes might have been an issue lol... like I said, I think until I hear this in person I better wait on the setup. Maybe a VVT2 or conversion with a mid grade mild to moderate cam.

I'm not sure how to express how much louder the cam made it, but if I had to estimate it... the jump from stock to the car with headers is about the same increase that the cam gave.

I am very glad I put the Borla Touring exhaust on my car. A cammed car with headers is perfect, imho, with the Borla Touring exhaust. It's not rediculously loud, but it sure has a nice muscle-car tone to it.
