What Will The COPO Camaros Run???

My guess: Low 9s for the 327 and very low 8s for the 427 (I'm pretty sure both will beat mine!)

I found on GMPP these were the classes they were shooting for

Suggested Class: (427) A/Stock (327) AA/Stock

Don't know what the speed measure is for those classes though

The current record for AA/S is held by a '08 Cobra Jet at 9.37.

The current record for A/S is held by a '69 427 Camaro at 9.94.

To be able to compete in AA or A in a heads up race the Camaro needs to run a worst of low 10s. AA should run mid to high 9s at will with A running high 9s to low 10s. If this cant be accomplished they shouldn't even bother bringing it out. All of this is going to depend on what GM rates the horsepower rating at for the NHRA classification guide. Each class has weight breaks and is determined by horsepower to weight ratio with a minimum weight called out.

Absolutely!

They'll just keep factoring the HP rating until it's adjusted to compete. Makes no difference anyway unless they run against a car in the same class and have to run heads up. Otherwise, it's VERY expensive bracket racing!

If this would go to market, how would they dress it? I mean, I can't see someone coming in to test drive a drag racing car! Would this be a pay up front type deal? Just curious

From what ive heard and seen on the Cobra jet and Drag pak Challys you have many options. One Challenger ive seen came with 4 spare tires on it so the owner could choose his own set-up for the drag strip. The Cobra can be bought minus power train all the way to a $10,000 upgraded supercharger! Money up front and no testing it before hand!

That's what I was thinking. But a sweet set up right out of the box.

Running the class times are one thing, but what is the true potential of the car.

If someone can post the full specs of the cars I'll run the performance calculations and post the results.

All you have to do is look at class records. When it comes to Stock or Super Stock racing, if you build a car for a class that has a lots of other cars in it, your going to have to be able to run at least 1 second under the index. While it is a bracket race, there are tons of CJ's and Challengers out there. That means the Camaro is bound to face many heads up, first to line wins races. For this you need to be able to run WAY under the index, or cut perfect lights every time. A 1/2 second under car won't cut it at the larger events when your bound to face a heads up race.
