Brake Ducts Installed on my 1LE (DIY)

I received my Backing plate/dust shields from Quantum last week...decided I didn't like the raw/bare metal look so I dropped them at the powder coater this afternoon.

I went with wrinkle black which I have used many time before on another project/car. I will pick them up Friday and post some pictures

Yes I am aware no one can see them.....But I know and that is all that matters!

I did this install today to the wheel well. Thanks Dropspeed for the DIY. Some notes:

- I ordered the Spectre p/n 8148 duct mounts and the neoprene ducting from Amazon. Work great.
- I used a 3 1/8" hole saw.
- The 8 push clips/pins needed for the duct mounts are 1/4" diameter. I found them at Autozone. I think Lowes had them also.
- I cut 1/2" into the ducting to relieve it and get it to fit over the duct mount. This allowed it to slip up without problem and I was confident the clamp would support it from tearing.
- I squished the ducting to a more oval shape to get it to comfortably fit behind the windshield washer bottle and radiator overflow.
- I used plastic plumbing supports (sold in a reel from Lowes) to hold the ducting in place. They may not hold up to the heat, but were more flexible than the metal alternatives. I widened the predrilled holes and used the washer bottle and radiator overllow bolts for mounting.
- I didn't cut the wheel well liners. They are flexible enough to accommodate the ducting tubes.
- A lot of fuss in other threads on removing the top bolt inside the wheel arch on each side when removing the front fascia. I didn't have a problem using a wobbly extension and a deep 10mm socket.

Does the duct venting have to be the neoprene material or can it be any ducting that deal with heat? If it does, are there any shops that sell that kind of ducting locally?

Looks like the installation will not be much different then the 2010 SS.

Three questions:

1. Do standard SS (non-1LE) models have the titanium backing plates on the pads? My understanding is the 1LE brakes are identical to the standard SS.

2. Does anyone have the part number for the torque-to-yield caliper mounting bolts? (This may have been listed, sorry if I missed it).

3. I realize this thread started before the Z/28 existed, but now that it does and the Z/28 brake ducts are available from Chevrolet Performance, why not use these on 2014-2015 models (at least as a starting point)?

All pads for SS and SS/1LE are the same. Ti would be too pricey for mass production and the caliper is a better/larger heat sink than a pad.

Not off hand, any dealer can provide it for you.

This mod is 10-13MY specific. I would buy the Z/28 ducts if I had a 14+.

I agree I have them easy install , full pic. instructions, and factor fit. I think they were only about 230 from the local GM dealer.

There have been successful installs of the Z/28 brake duct kit on 2013 cars. I did it myself. Another person has recently completed the install on a 2013 as well.

If your car is "stock", you would need a NACA duct with the exit offset to one side. In the picture of my car you show, the washer bottle is to the right of the duct and would be in the way of the exit on the duct in your picture.
