The SS went away for decades and came back with the 4th gens. It wasn't a step down from Z/28 to SS. It was a step up in power and suspension. How is Chevy going to justify the Z/28 being the badder beast compared to the SS they've already put out? Don't care. Does the ZL1 look to be a bad beast? Hell yes, but I'm putting money away for a Nickey car. And I don't know many here who wish their cars weren't lighter. It was one of the benefits of the original ZL1's(weight of a mouse motor, power of the big rat).

Some may just prefer the Z28 nameplate. The ZL1 nameplate over the years has been turned into somewhat asshole collectors edition no heritage just high dollar for what it is nameplate. SLP surely isn't doing it any justice this year with a $110k-$120k overall price tag. I can understand why GM chose the ZL1 name to go with the ZR1 Corvette but somewhere there has to be the normally aspirated higher performance edition that fits between the SS & ZL1 and preferably built to be a little less expensive than the ZL1 too. The SS nameplate was a much smarter choice for standard V8 version this time considering competition and where the "Z" stands in the Corvette line up, along with following the roots of the first gen as mentioned in other posts. I myself would really like to see a N/A faster version of the SS pop up that preferably has the interior trim level of a 1SS.

I just don't see a Z28 happening for gen 5. Maybe I'll eat my words in a few years, but 2015 marks the movement to Alpha, and the end of gen 5. ZL1 isn't coming until 2012, leaving 3 model years left for a gen 5 Z28.
ZL1 is the high-performance model for gen 5, IMO. Squeezing another model to the Camaro line before 2015 would only cannibalize SS (and some ZL1) sales and would have to be a helluvarush... Lemme pose a question to the hopefuls: If the ZL1 were in fact dubbed "Z28", would you still be waiting for a stripped-down performance Camaro?

Maybe, but I cannot believe some people are gonna pass on this car because it is called a ZL1. BADASS is BADASS. Besides, it's not like they called it the HP Edition. Now that would have been I mean, people in the know, know what a ZL1 is and what it meant.

I see there being a Z28 available in spring 2013
Convertible Spring 2011 ZL1 Spring 2012 Z28 Spring 2013 Stick more special editions like the Synergy Series and XM etc in between and you keep the media buzzing and the public interested I expect pricing will be between the SS and ZL1 that way well equiped models will be nicely spaced V6 - Mid $20ks SS - Mid $30ks Z28 - Mid 40ks ZL1 - Mid 50ks

just wait and see. they will probably bring out the Z28 when they redesign to the smaller platform. giving them the oppurtunity to shed weight and compete with the boss 302.. i dont know if thats 2015??? or sooner, but by then they might be too late....just chiming in

yes but like GM they may be, stalling....if they were going to bring it out, wouldnt they have wanted to bring it out the same time as the boss??? bring out the ZL1 to compete iwith the GT500, seems to be a smaller market than what the boss 302 market would be. to bring the weight down now they would have to have extensive carbon fibre bits, and that would drive the cost too high. so my thinking is they are waiting to trim weight via remodelling. but who knows....just my thinking, and who am i??? just a thrilled SS owner...

I believe now that the ZL1 announcement is done, and that vehicle to go on sale real soon, the Z28 will follow close behind, for those who want something a little different. I think the release of the Transformers 3 movie this July 1st, "may" play a role, but that's just speculation, because the ZL1 will have exhausted it's hype by then. I, like the rest of you, am just providing my thoughts, be it right or wrong, it's a lot of fun hoping. ISN'T THAT RIGHT, THOSE OF YOU IN THE GM TOWERS?

I'm waiting on the Alpha platform no matter what they release, but I expect we'll definitely see a Z28 on the Alpha whether we see one or not before then.
By the time Alpha comes out, I'll probably want a CTS anyway, LOL. |

I thought that too. When my mother passed away, I was given her Eldorado. I really liked it. I thought, I should get a new one and trade my 97Z28(30th anniversary package) in on it. Biggest mistake of my life. Although the Eldorado was loaded and had lots of power, man it was just not me. I missed my Camaro so bad. Bad thing was there were no new Camaros to trade in for until the 5th gen. I went through 2 GTO's 04 and 06 and an 09 Solstice to try and get that feeling back. Never happened until the 5th gen came out. I'm never doing that again. I have the car I have always wanted finally. Now this may not be you at all, but just something to think about.
