As long as it performs well it won't be stepping on the toes of the Z28's heritage. Chevy has been taking more of an evolutionary direction with the Camaro like with the ZL1. If the Z is to be built they will do what is best to make the car outperform the competition. If that's with a 302(doubtful), they'll put it in there, but from a cost standpoint they will probably just modify the LS3. If they wait till the 6th gen we can expect a brand new engine.

First of all the 302 of the 60's was a very capable car even on the strip. The 396 had better #'s, but was heavier and reved slower. The current 5.0 in the Boss Mustang is 440 hp so if GM builds a Z it should put out the same or better #'s. The SS is not a top dog only an option of features. For example to me all that SS means in this day and age is it has a V8, it was much the same way in the first Gen. Most 67 SS Camaro's were equipped with 350 and later the 396 became an option. My Nova for another example if you order an SS in 67 it gave you buckets seats a center console and some exterior trim. The motor was a totally separate option. This is why you can have an SS w/ an in line six on a Nova. In the Camaro the SS didn't always mean you get the biggest baddest engine most of the time you had option on a big block w/ different hp ratings or small block 350 car. It was this way for the first gens and I believe into the early second gens.

Who gives a rats ass? Most of us have purchased the 2010 model, and I"m not going to trade in my SS for a ZL(n), a Z28 or an Iroc.
I rather like the SS, it comes with the basic engine which is capable of producing well over 700hp., and there are numerous aftermarket upgrades for every single aspect of the vehicle, so you can customize the handling of the vehicle for whatever driving conditions you need. What else do you want? The ZL1 and / or any other version of a Z28 or Iroc, will still require aftermarket upgrades, as I doubt very much they'll be perfect, as the Mustangs aren't perfect either and could use quite a bit of upgrades to achive certain perfomance levels and handling. With the mods I've done and many other Camaro owners on C5, we're already 302 Boss, and GT500 Mustang killers, so no need to wait for newer models. A perfect example of this is a Z06 vs a ZR1 Corvette, you can purchase a Z06, add a ProCharger or Vortech Supercharger, and a few other minor mods, and smoke the ZR1 day-in and day-out on the track. So, just because GM decides to throw on an SC and some boring suspension upgrades doesn't make it a better performing or faster vehicle. The same applies for the Camaro.

Don't let this fool you, the 302 could push close to 400 HP.

Blizzard I want a warranty with my new Z, no mods for me. It just kills me that for most people it's all about HP and how fast you can go. I just want another nice driveable piece of history.

I was making a comment to how someone said why have gm make a Z28 since his car would already smoke it. I am with you, I want a warranty.

A V8, with only 10 more hp than the 2012 V6? Not worth it!

Blizzard, I understand what you were saying. I don't understand why people want a zillion HP so their car can go fast. I don't plan to race mine just drive and enjoy it.
I have a 69 that goes scary fast now. Last edited by Fightinfire921; 05-03-2011 at 04:16 PM. |

Just look at the SSX and tell me they haven't been looking into a track oriented Camaro. There won't be any exotic engine that hasn't come out yet. Look for a tweaked dry sump LS3 from the vette, suspension, ZL1 brakes and wheels and some weight savings.
