Trying tp see if i need to be using synthetic or blend or conventional oil, then 2nd what weight of oil, im not looking for brand specifics as to not start a war on ppl naming the best or the highest sht when really not need for car to function as a daily driver not race car or track or drag. Just wanna make sure the stuff im using now isnt to thin when heated in this texas heat 90 to 105 weather. Im currently using pennzoil synthetic from natural gas, 5w30

I would use a synthetic that has a HTHS rating of at least 3.5 which would be most quality 0w-40 or 5w-40 like M1, Amsoil, or Castrol "euro formulation" oils.

high temperature high shear. Your 30 oils cant perform as well at higher temperatures. You also dont want too thick of an oil and particularly not too thick of one at startup (such as a 20w-50). You just end up losing a bit of power, losing a bit of fuel economy, and putting increased stress on the engine with too thick of an oil. A good compromise then is picking a 0w-40 that has very good high temp performance but a great cold viscosity as well. The euro formulation oils in the 0w-40 range possess these qualities as they were developed for very extended drain intervals and often in factor turbo or supercharged engines (bmw, audi, mb).

I run Joe Gibbs DT40. But I run different tolerances than a stock motor. Before I built the motor, I ran 5w-30. Honestly, I would call someone like the people at Joe gibbs, tell them where you are, and what you have, and let them recommend an oil, instead of us professionals telling you...

Marketing has really tainted the oil arena. Keeping relatively clean oil in the car is best - think of it as a cheap insurance policy, change the oil or change the motor. To your question: what does the turbo vendor/install/tuner suggest? AGP suggested 20w50 in the hot months and 10w40 wintertime. I've even tried the Mobil 1 5w40 turbo diesel in the summer and quite honestly, it has all worked fine. And, I run the crap out of my car with drag racing, autocross and road course. If you're paranoid, you can always send a sample off to Blackstone for analysis. I did after 5,000miles of beating on the car. The answer was oil looked great with less than usual wear products. They also said the recommended average miles for my type of motor was to change the oil every 3,700miles. So, end of story, don't fall for the brand marketing pitch - just keep clean oil in the car. Any SAE will do. Synthetic does stay cleaner longer.

I run Brad Penn in mid May I put 20w50 for summer , and in October change to 10w40 for winter---stock motor(AGP recommended)! When I build motor I would know exact bearing clearance and go by that

I use Rotella t6 5w40. cheaper alternative to some of the other oils. ran it in my twin turbo sbc car as well and will be running it in my turbo 5.3 as well.
